Cannot create system memory surface DXT5,2048x2048

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've poked thru the search funtion but can't seem to turn up any results here. Google turned up a few results (*all* related to ArmA, but not much info).  Seems to be video (memory) related.

System and GPU temps look to be well within normal ranges.  Ample air flowing thru case. Nothing abnormal on the nVidia event log. Power supply output steady with much to spare. All the current/latest drivers (nVidia, etc).

Error only occurs playing ARMA. Results in CTD and msg:

"Cannot create system memory surface DXT5,2048x2048"

Specs:

E8400

4GB Patriot Viper 4-4-4-12

8800GTS (G92) 512MB

OZC 700Watt ps

WD Rapter HHDs

Cosmos 1000 case

Windows XP

Thanks

Could be a relation. From what few bits of info I've gathered, the error dates back to ArmA release and is fairly common with nVidia 8800GT_ series cards. It spans several nVidia driver builds.

I'm running the lastest DIRX version for XP (this PC build was only assembled in the past month, and I tried to grab the most current drivers, etc).

I'm no nvidia expert but you could try rolling back the drivers until someone with some actual experience intervenes.

Isnt this the long known issue of the 32b virtual address space running out of room. Which has been cut down significantly in the beta patches by way of a new method of storing memory.

You could try running with maxmem=512  it'll help some, or play the latest beta.....

I'll try to find the link which explained it better.

Thanks.

I'll give the maxmem a try tonight. I saw it mentioned in a few searches, but the results looked mixed.

This is *exactly* what I'm seeing....trangles, then CTD.

Thanks for the link!
