OldFossil 0 Posted March 17, 2008 Almost all knows that AI can view through vegetation so cover transparency and right evaluation of the line of sight is a limit only for human players. Excepted for the Durg's Vegetation Fix, does patch 1.09 will fix this inexplicably bad ArmA feature? Thanks all for attention.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted March 17, 2008 The default bushes do block the AI sight, however the shape  that actually blocked the AI view is very simple and usually the edges are visible for the AI. (And only partly for players as there are still some leaves for them) Durg just made those shapes bigger so they covered not just the bush but a bit more then that. EDIT: In this video you can see that the bushes to block the AI view and that they only shoot trough bushes when they hear your movement.
max power 21 Posted March 17, 2008 @OldFossil What you say is not strictly true. The vegetation occludes the ai sight depending on the shape of an LOD. Durg's LODs are just much more restrictive. In my opinion, he plastered on too much. edit: clarifying who I was talking to.
OldFossil 0 Posted March 18, 2008 Thanks for replies, maybe I'm wrong, but seems that actual (1.08) way to manage the possibility to use vegetation as cover by humans is really poor...especially at night...but in this case I should tweak a little bit the video settings, because with actual ones, at times like 9:30 pm all surrounding environment is almost pitch black...suggestions? Have a nice day!

Have a nice day! Yup. Change the date and month to get a moonlit night. I had the same problem with night missions. It makes things so much better

Have a nice day! :) 1.) This  youtube-video shows the situation for bushes. The situation for other bushes or some (or all?) trees is different. 2.) http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....tionfix In the 4. picture you see that the vanilla shape worls not only incorrect the vanilla-shape gives also cover where NO cover is! This is correctet by durgs vegetation-fix. 3.) Since the vegetation-fix is out there are no postet evidences that the player has unfair advantages against the AI ( because the "overdone" of the shape-edges of the vegetation-fix is minimal). 4.) The AI is not affected by the enemy-camouflage-suit but the game-player. Conclusion: USE the fix instead of changing your video-setting.
frederf 0 Posted March 20, 2008 The AI also detects by sound. If you removed the AI's sight and repeated that bush test you'd see similar behavior.
max power 21 Posted March 21, 2008 try the new patch. It seems to have improvements with regards to the hearing ability of AI.
frederf 0 Posted March 21, 2008 That's cool. I remember back in the day someone coded an enemy soldier to be completely blind but have default hearing and then made a script that placed a flagpole where the enemy thought he was. It was scary accurate even 300m away and a few minutes between shots.
madrussian 347 Posted March 23, 2008 Couple of vegetation related questions... Is there any consensus yet on whether we still need Durg's vegetation fix anymore as of the 1.11 patch? (i.e Do the 1.11 a.i fixes related to sight and sound make Durg's now go too far)? Also, same question about lowplants... any consensis on whether we still need it as of the 1.11 patch? The-Architect 0 Posted March 23, 2008 I'd like to know this too.
max power 21 Posted March 23, 2008 why not just test it?
Maddmatt 1 Posted March 23, 2008 Also, same question about lowplants... any consensis on whether we still need it as of the 1.11 patch? Well 1.09 optimised the vegetation shaders a lot, so performance with vegetation improved. Lowplants disables shaders like normal maps on plants so you will still see a performance increase with it, maybe not as much as before. So whether you still need it or not depends on your system.
