Recommended Posts

Ok, I just bought ArmA and it wont start.

Step by Step reply on what happens:

1. I click the ArmA shortcut

2. The box of boxes shows up

3. Boxes check up to the last two and stops

4. The window disappears

5. The windows error box shows up

After all of that this is the point that it dont get. I get the windows error box thing. It ask me to Debug, dont send, and send report. Ive done all of them, but i seem to cant get a solution to this problem no one else seems to get it.

Ive tried the OpenRL so please do not tell me its that because its not.

As an absolute minimum if you expect any kind of help you must include a full list of your system specs as well as information about which version of ArmA you're running.

I assume you tried to start Arma before the WOW running?

Have you tried running Arma without the background programs? Ventrilio, AVG etc..

Are any of you using the Steam version? If so you can download the demo and supposably the full version will work. You can do that or just wait for Steam to fix it.

Are you starting it with the correct shortcut as described in the readme?

This is whats happening to me, except there is no step 5, there is no error box. 8 boxes tick and then it vanishes, task manager shows the process hanging out there keeping to itself. Seeing as there is no explanation of what the boxes represent I don't even have a clue where to go.

My pc is Vista 64bit Ultimate, 4gb ram, 8800GT. I've tried all the fixes listed here and on the BI wiki site. No change, 8 ticks then vanish. It's the same now after all these fix attempts as it was when it first failed. 1-thru-8 then vanish.

I got my copy(G.E.) from Sprocket also.

Crysis, CoD4, Red alert 2, OFP: new and old games work totally fine. Yet this won't even attempt to load. Anyone got any ideas that aren't already mentioned in these forums? Or should I just twiddle my thumbs till they hopefully fix it one day? And try not to dwell on the wasted cash and disappointment. sad_o.gif

The boxes are just sort of a splash-screen that runs while ArmA runs a mini benchmark on system hardware to better configure your "ideal system default settings". My row of boxes checks all but the last 2, then the game starts.

#1: What drivers are you using for that 8800gt?

#2: Have you tried re-downloading the game? Theres always the chance that a small file got corrupted along the way somwhere in the process.

#2b: Before reinstalling the game, be sure to delete any previous remnants of your old instalation (Do a full system search, show hidden & system files as well just to be sure) and be sure to run a registry cleaner after having uninstalled ArmA and rebooting your system.

Thats all that comes to mind at the moment.

I have the latest drivers. Would the corruption be there with it being a single file before the sprocket stuff installs it? Wouldn't a corruption error the install? I'll uninstall and comb the registry.

Thanks for that idea. smile_o.gif

And RE: the error message some get in "#5".

Looking closely, I see that you're running version 1.08.

Have you tried installing the 1.09 patch prior to the 1.11 / 1.12 beta patches? (I dont think I did either, but got no error, still worth a shot.)

Difference being that the beta patches run alot like a mod, whereas the 1.08 & 1.09 patches are normal in the sense that they update pre-existing game files if that makes any sense to ya'.

P.S.: Could help to be sure you're logged on as an administrator when installing the game.

Yes I too have been bitten by this. Now I bought the AMRA Gold pack, and automatically updated via the BI website to 1.12.

My specs are:

OS: XP SP2

CPU: AMD XP 2500+ 1.8GHZ

RAM: 2GB of PC 2700

VIDEO: NVidia GForce 7600GT 512MB RAM

SOUND:ALC 650 with updated driver

So any thoughts besides buy a new machine smile_o.gif

I tried 1.09 with a fresh install. Nothing. Wish there was some way to know whats causing this. A log would be nice. Oh well. Wait for a patch I guess. huh.gifbanghead.gif

Just curious, what registry cleaner did you use when you uninstalled & did you do a full system search for arma to make sure theres no leftovers?

What version of the forceware drivers, What brand of motherboard, how many watts is your PSU rated at, do you use onboard sound or have a soundcard?

Right click the shortcut for the arma beta and copy / paste your target path, mabey somethings fudged in there?

Regedit and locating and then searching(i've been doing this for several years), I don't use a special cleaner.

I also check and remove the various folders and files left behind after install.

Driver: 7.15.0011.6925, Asus P5K-E mobo, 500 watt PSU. Onboard sound is disabled and I use Creative X-fi(upto date driver) soundcard.

I've uninstalled Arma(so can't cut and paste it). Maxmem was the only one I stuck I added after the 3rd reinstall. I alternated -nosound and -nosplash in after the first failed maxmem only addition. I also reduced my system ram to 3gig via msconfig. No change. Guess i'll keep my eye on this forum and wait for some change/fix.
