LtCmdrBoon 0 Posted January 13, 2008 I'd like a few more switches and dials in cockpits of the stock air vehicles. I know some people just want to hop in, press Q and move the mouse, but some pilots who prefer the flying to the shooting side of the game may want something more. I know some addons have touched on this, by having doors, etc, but A half decent set of instruments that worked would be nice. I'm not trying to imply a set of 50 switches that need to be flicked in said order to get the engine runnin, just something is missing.
smellyjelly 0 Posted January 13, 2008 I agree, before Arma came out I was hoping that the aircraft was realistic. I don't know enough about flying, though, to give any examples of stuff I'd like to see, but there should be enough features to give jets and helicopters a learning curve. Inkompetent 0 Posted January 13, 2008 Problem with realistic airplanes is that all planes but the A-10 and Su-25 will become worthless - simply because the map is too small for their method of operation. I wouldn't mind that though. Keep the slow CAS airplanes and and the helicopters and make them more realistic in use. That'd be really, really sweet.
smellyjelly 0 Posted January 13, 2008 I'm not 100% sure on this, but in an earlier topic someone said that BIS was going to make the island in Arma II much bigger. Hopefully they were right so we can have realistic flight models. Another method that might work is to have the main island and then a bunch of medium sized islands far off in the sea. That way the overall area of the map is still very large, but considerably less interesting. I'd like see is an improvement to the view disance from the air to the ground. Currently in Arma if I want to attack ground units I have to be very close and I have to be quick because if I don't pull up fast enough I'll crash.
NoRailgunner 0 Posted January 13, 2008 I wonder if BIS will make such flight sim stuff. Maybe they will add some new countermeasures, cockpit and avionic features first. There was some words about F-35 JSF (Bluefor) but on the other OPFOR side <unknown> maybe MiG-35 or SU-47? Most modern air combat is BVR and air to ground weapons (eg. bombs) are standoff weapons. Remember defense satellite communication systems, ELINT etc. Would be very complex to get such things working and also take care of ground and sea combat features too. Anyway working MFD's (eg. map, weapon, damage) with ECM/CM would be great for planes. If pilot could have the choice of realistic weapon loadout (depending on maximum weight combat load) in Briefing/Gear menu...
Inkompetent 0 Posted January 14, 2008 Yeah, thing today is that planes aren't built to fly CAS, other than with fairly long distant weapons like Mavericks. Bombing is done from 8km up with JDAMs or GBUs, on rare occasions or in case of pre-planned CAS there can be units on the ground marking targets with laser designators. Air to air fighting is done at BVR (beyond visual range) and at speeds over 300+ knots. 40x40km isn't much maneuver space when you missiles have 16nm reach...
