leckig 0 Posted October 1, 2007 Hi! See my config in the signature. I have an oportunity to replace my card with the new 2900 pro and I would actually make some money in the process. Reason: in the res I play I have everythign on low and still only get 25 FPS in towns and forest. Over 60 in other areas. When I shut the AA completly, I my FPS almost doubles, but it does not look well. Will 2900 pro improve things? greg

-Puma- 2 Posted October 1, 2007 well I have no idea what the performance is on 2900xt, but what I've heard that the core they use is basiclly a downclocked XT core and with better cooling u can clock it to XT speeds. i know im waiting for 2900pro
leckig 0 Posted October 1, 2007 I cant find anyone with 2900 XT and ARMA. I wonder what FPS they get in high res.
RN Escobar 0 Posted October 1, 2007 2900 is essentially a mid range product, the pro is a cut down XT, and the XT is still not as good as an 8800 GTS. now ATI fanboys will scream that is has more more mem bandwidth blah blah blah but it just isn't as fast as an 8800. on paper it should be better, more stream processors, mem ring bus, but the benchmarks just don't show it. save your money, if anything upgrade to either 8800 SLI or an 8800GTX/ULTRA the ATI/AMD AA looks better than Nvidia's, shader AA i believe they called it, but it still has lower FPS

So atleast my pick is ATI for better looking game

Shazam, it beats the GTS!
RN Escobar 0 Posted October 1, 2007 as i allready said i think the shader based AA looks better, that isn't a point i'm even gona argue about, the extra B/W of the ring bus allows for a far greater amount of adaptive AA on an ATI/AMD card than it does on a nvidia card
oChaos.DNJ 0 Posted October 1, 2007 2900xt is a little better or equal to in some games to the 8800gts. 2900pro will be less of a card then the xt, so itll probably be lower to equal to a 8800gts. but you have a 320mb version of the GTS so It may be better then. RN Escobar 0 Posted October 1, 2007 at the end of the day, its your money, you decide, if u post on forums like these you will get those that own 1 card or the other saying their card is great. my advice, spend as much as u can afford on your gfx card, expecially in a gaming rig, read the reviews yourself, there are hundreds of sites that review such things, and then once u feel u know what u want go buy it. getting advice on forums is all well and good, but it aint our money, its yours

leckig 0 Posted October 2, 2007 well, here is the good news. I will get the 2900 PRO tomorrow to test for a week. I know what the general scores of both cards are, but I cannot find a test comparing them in ARMA. I will do that and publish the test. If you want me to test something specific let me know. I am planning to compare both using armamark.
