Ateryu82 0 Posted August 21, 2007 First off, you should know I know absolutely squat about making mods or anything like it. So I hope that what I'm about to suggest is actually possible. If it's not, it should be. Ok, so here's the thing. Right now I see some really nice mods coming out, also usable for multi player. These mods are mostly eye (ear) candy. They make the game more immersive, which is what we all want. The problem is, these mods are all client side. Take replacement packs for skins/camo/textures, take soundmods, take the nice smoke/explosion improvements. They all are client side, so it is up to each individual gamer to download these mods and use them. These mods may make things look/sound better but they also might put you at a disadvantage or worse, they may be seen as cheats. More persistent smoke, for instance, is beautiful but also a disadvantage we should all have in mp. It would be great if there was a server side 'mod pack' that combines mods that we all like and that should make the new standard in Arma, especially on mp servers. Perhaps it would come with a client side mod pack. Just now, I recall the 6th sense mod, this may be a step in the direction I am implying but at the moment I hardly seen any servers running it. It also doesn't involve the community in what mods should be contained within it. This was just something that struck me when plowing through the mod jungle. I hope someone is inspired by this. No, not me as I don't know the first thing about any of it and because, truth to tell, I can't be bothered to learn. Anyway, thank you for reading my rant and thank you to all modders who invest their time and effort into making Arma a better experience for all of us. Blackbuck 9 Posted August 21, 2007 You could just post them as required addons for the missions ?

There will never be an addon/mod that all players like
Ateryu82 0 Posted August 21, 2007 That's true but only to some degree. Take for instance Elder Scrolls IV. For that game, after a while, some modpacks were released that became hugely popular. Off coarse it's not for everybody but I'm certain you could assemble a modpack that would appeal to the vast majority of Arma players and that could funtion as a new base/standard for the game. liljb15 0 Posted August 21, 2007 That wouldn't exactly be noob friendly to people who just bought the game. I know I'd be frusterated if I found out that I just bought a brand new game but I gotta spend all day downloading mods just so I can play online.
Ateryu82 0 Posted August 21, 2007 Which is why it would 1 modpack
Blackbuck 9 Posted August 21, 2007 Having read through this again I don't see what would stop a total conversion from being used which would be both for server and client side.
Ateryu82 0 Posted August 23, 2007 I've never played OFP online, were there similar packs for it? How did they cope with the big offering of mods? Did everyone just use the mods they liked or was there a general consensus on which mods were used and considered must-have by almost all players?
MehMan 0 Posted August 23, 2007 Depends on the clan or server. Most clans have thier own server which uses the modpack that the clan adds to their site which is usually a complation of community created addons.
