Arma Effect Making

Recommended Posts

Are there tutorials that explain how to open the game files/what program to use to open them, and how to pack them back up?  So far, I have not been able to find anything on ARMA or OFP editing.

I have done personal effects/coding for Battlefield Vietnam, started doing BF2 effects, and finally did final completely overhauled effects for a realism mod for BF2, which I recently left.

If someone could help me out with the basic editing or effect editing, that would be appreciated.

Some VERY outdated and old work which has since been improved but these are the only screens from my old work, simple, but the way they look ingame is realistic:

the only realistic ground shock in that whole game

shell ejections for mg34, plus the barrel smoke

well, i also had some kick ass .50 cal stuff like impacts and barrel smoke, but i can't get my mods working again. I had a bunch of other neat effects but i guess i can't show them.

There aren't any tutorials because every program is different. There are dozens of programs that can open the games .pbo files and recompress them. PBOVIEW is one that I use, but if you look around OFPEC you can find others to try as well. Find one that looks good, and read its readme. Good luck!

Arma always has room for effects and the like.

Whatever your imagination can come up with

Only thing I notice and I want to point out is that their is very talented people here - modmakers, scripters, tetxurers that make all their own stuff.

Just a warning that we don't want imported or robbed stuff from other games and such, please make it all yourself

1) get cpbo here to unpack and repack pbos

2) unRap (in the same package) to convert config.bin files to config.cpp (which are human readable format)

the main part is config work for effects changing.

search the configs for CfgCloudlets or smoke/explosion etc

here you can download all configs in ccp format:

check these stuff for script made effects:

check out this existing ArmA work:

Yeah, thanks for all the help guys. I'm already set up and testing different variables. This is very similar, I guess coding is coding huh. Although, bringing an aircraft ingame would be a completely different story heh, but really it's getting your self set up that's the challenge, but thanks to matt, i saw how he had set up his "mod", and didn't think it would be that simple. Now to get complicated with some effects biggrin_o.gif .
