FSX Flicker at Startup?

Recommended Posts

G'day guys,

I'm not a member of any FS forums, so just thought I'd ask here.

I just bought FSX and when I start a flight, the screen just flickers between black and desktop (like it's trying to find the right resolution) non-stop.

Not sure what the problem is, my computer should be handling FSX ok...

"I just bought FSX "

HAHA! what a waste of money! MS sucks at making flight sims , they're more like arcadey flying games.

I on the other hand bought X-Plane which is cheaper and far more realistic flight dynamics than FSX and wouldn't trade it in for anything Microsoft. I even downloaded FSX and ended up deleting that load of poo off my drive. rofl.gif

O wow that must have really solved the guys problem! BTW good going saying you warezed a game. I tried X-plane and I tried real aircraft (PPL, half way through an instrument rating course) and found X-plane to be lame, boring and lacking in expandabillity.

Stewy: Try this:

Update your videodriver

Update your windows version (If you have XP make sure you have the Service packs)

Update your version of Directx

Update FSX with the patch, you can find it on microsofts site

Don't be put off by dimwits like RedNova, enjoy the game and don't be afraid to ask question in PM if you get it working. I might not know everything but I've been around flightsims for a while wink_o.gif

People like Microsoft give flight simulators a bad reputation. They're overpriced and flawed in every aspect other than eye candy.

You're obviously one of them knob hoppers that can't tell an arcade game from a quality focused complex number crunching aerodynamic physics simulating program. Just read X-plane reviews..most real life aviation pilots prefer X-Plane over FS series to practice on. Stick to Xbox...dude.

And BTW it ain't warez if you download it only to find out it's complete manure and ain't worth the space on your hard drive much less a disc to burn it on. Easy come Easy go. whistle.gif

Thanks Supah for your help...

Yep, running the latest Vista and Nividia drivers (courtesy of this great forum)

I still need to get the FSX SP1 download - waiting for my broadband to come back (have used up my quota this month) wink_o.gif

Thanks again, I might play with the resolution settings a bit smile_o.gif

Although, as an FS2K2 fan, I'm not overjoyed with FSX...seems to be the same standard of graphics, difficulty and yet laggy and clunky...

Well you can always try getting FS2004 too smile_o.gif It has a lot more features then FS2k2 but isn't as hard on your PC as FSX. I had a page with graphics tweaks for FSX. I'll see if I can't dig it up for you smile_o.gif

Hi Stewy!

It took me a while but I found a link to a mate's site that has some tweaks for FSX IOCL forums

To be safe, always make backups before editing files! smile_o.gif Hope this is of some help for you. Reading your specs I'd say your PC is more then capable of running the game smile_o.gif

the patch will drastically improve the performance of FSX since it adds support for dual core processors..

for me it made it possible to set all settings to very high (2nd highest value, ultra high is highest i belive) and i dont have even the slightest lag..
