the_bengine 0 Posted July 13, 2007 Can sombody please help. I've just finished installing a friends computer with a fresh xp install with Arma running on an 8600GT. Whenever we try and play an online game, none of the textures load up. They only appear if i ctrl-alt out of the game and come back in again. Even then, certain objects are missing textures. Plus when we come back out, the buttons and icons are missing. Could this before some sort of FADE? I originally had the version of Arma on my computer and left it on there for an online game over the LAN. The server wouldn't let him join as he had a duplicate copy, so i switched "kickDuplicate" off on teh server. We were then able to play but he got some kind of message like "pirated software will degrade in quality". Anyway, i then installed my new DVD version on my computer leaving him with my old version, so we both have different copies. Could this somehow explain the graphic side effects? I've reinstalled his version from scratch and updated graphics cards drivers/directx to no avail. Surely they can't still be punishing me for trying to use two copies once on an LAN? If i've got a legit version, how do i reset it to run normally?
the_bengine 0 Posted July 13, 2007 Just noticed certain areas of the screen are blurred now. Plus objects are stuck in their "distant" low poly mode. It's gotta be FADE. Does this mean i can never install this copy on this computer without an entire system reboot?
BraTTy 0 Posted July 14, 2007 That doesn't sound like fade.Just graphics glitches In the past with OFP, a uninstall (removing registry entries too) and reinstall would fix it. (haven't we all tried the single copy lan thing) I am not sure with Arma
the_bengine 0 Posted July 14, 2007 How do i go about removing all references in the registry without forking out £30? The graphical glitches are sometimes bearable. The real problem comes when, when the textures start failing, i try to escape to the sub menu to play around with settings etc, and the game freezes. If i can get to the graphics setting menu and cause the screen to refresh (by changing resolution or AA etc) the problem seems to fix itself until a new mission is started. Any suggestions? -Puma- 2 Posted July 14, 2007 If u have 2gb of ram try disabling pagefile, that should do the trick for texture loading probs... if u got only like 1gb, then switch off from windows managed pagefile and make a say 2000max and 2000min pagefile. allso defrag HD
the_bengine 0 Posted July 14, 2007 Cheers Puma, will give it a go. Will the lack of pagefile afterwards cause any problems for other programs? I'm thinking for specifically for music software that will be potentially streaming a lot of audio from the harddrive. Anyway, before reading your post, i'd been playing with arma around and the problem hasn't occured for a while. Seems to only be occuring during online Evolution games: night vision/map icons flicking on and off etc...
-Puma- 2 Posted July 14, 2007 well can't confirm what progs need pagefile, but I've been running winamp + photoshop and all kinds of other software without any trouble. Only prog that gave me "low virtual memory" message was prime 95.
max power 21 Posted July 16, 2007 I don't think this is fade. If you think your game is fading and you have a legitimate copy, contact Suma or Maruk.
[asa]oden 0 Posted July 16, 2007 while on the subject, when testing JIP for a mission - how do you know that ev. odd behaviour is due to your code or FADE? sorry for using your thread. /theOden
max power 21 Posted July 16, 2007 Discussing copy protection is not permitted on these forums. If you have questions about FADE, try contacting the developers.
Infam0us 10 Posted July 16, 2007 I thought the Forum admins had been over the whole "Fade" is'nt in ArmA it was a Codemasters thing already?
max power 21 Posted July 17, 2007 The FADE name was owned by codemasters... just like the ofp name was owned by codemasters. The code, etc, is not.
Deftoner 0 Posted July 17, 2007 I'm having the same sort of problem. Textures seem to disappear or just act weird after a few missions. Night vision occasionally flickers.... It seems to happen if you look through spinning rotors at the sun/moon too (with NV on). The card is an Nvidia 8600GT with latest Drivers
the_bengine 0 Posted July 18, 2007 Hi Deftoner. i think it's a problem with the 8600GT. Me and a couple of friends sat down in my spare room with 3 pcs hooked up and i showed them Arma. I had to physically kick them out at 3am after playing it solidly for 12hours Anyway, we ran the 8600GT the whole time with very few graphical glithes. I couldn't tell you the solution, but i played around a lot with the settings and, as someone suggests earlier in the thread, turned off windows pagefile. I no longer got the annoying texture turning off but did get the nightvision and the map icons flickering. it was rare tho. I'd tell you the settings i chose but i haven't got that particular pc set up. if you're still having problems in a few days, i'll hoik it out of the box and let you know. Weird thing is I had the same issue with my old 7300GS (crappy, i know )....so its not the card. The problem Is quite rare, but definitely happens. I'll try messing with the page file or maybe even my -maxmem=XXX setting.. I think the night vision flickering may be a coding or driver issue.
the_bengine 0 Posted July 18, 2007 do you get it where none of the textures have loaded so everything looks like a game from the early 90s, and when you walk up to objects they're stuck in their "distant" mode? i messed around with maxmem but it didn't seem to make any difference. to be honest, i have no idea if i've even fixed the problem, all i know is that it's not nearly as bad after faffing about with pagefile and the graphics settings. I'm pretty sure i'm using an old driver that came with the card as opposed to the latest one on the nvidia site aswell. I had to roll back the driver on my 7900GTX to get that to run properly so if you had the same problem with your old card, it could be you're using the same, most recent, drivers. I just downloaded the Tweaks R us driver... I'll try it when I get home later. On both cards.. The textures sort of flash between low and high.....some textures don't appear at all (ie on buildings, sandbags, etc).... Changing the texture option to low and back to high again seems to fix it....sometimes. I must admit it does happen a little less on the 8600GT
