Me too sad_o.gif

/offtopic

May I ask what the -world=empty switch does in your CTD fix in your sig?

I get the usual 8800 CTD's, unless I use the "low" texture setting. Even the "default" setting meant for these cards CTD's.

But if that switch means I can play at higher texture res (even with a lower fps than XP) I would be a very happy man.

Cheers

Just when you first load the game is makes it load faster beciase it doent load any island. e.g. when you load the game you get a screen showing off the island and buidlings with troops walking around this just loads the sea and no island making it load much much faster.

Dont use vista, not for a long time.

Why?

It eats up more memory.

It slows down your gaming by 5-10 FPS (or more in some cases)

Shitty drivers

A lot of security flaws

The only plus point is its shiny :P Luckily i have windows media centre xp so its shiny! biggrin_o.gif

Yes it eats more memory. (but more features)

Yes games run slower.

Yes it has bad driver support. (although this is quickly getting better)

BUT

It is allot more secure than Windows XP. Allot less security flaws than XP SP2. That's a fact.

Don't comment on OS's you don't use or have good knowledge of wink_o.gif

FYI, I work in the industry, use Vista at the moment, but am about to un-install and go back to XP for the extra FPS in ArmA wink_o.gif

Where do get this misconception I wonder?

You cannot compare the memory usage between Vista and XP cause they use it differently. Vista is more efficient.

It doesn't slow gaming. It didn't in my case. Why? see above.

Drivers are shitty cause it is still an infant age for an OS, in which case it's normal. That's why Vista isn't production ready in terms of corporation usage.

Security flaws are always and issue. It is unwinnable battle. You do the same things you do in XP. Routers, firewalls, antiV scanners.

Now, when I first approached Vista (Vista 64 U), I learned a bunch of documentation (I need a proper production enviromnent for XSI and others) to set the OS the way it should be.

It worked like a charm apart from OpenGL drivers which are still premature and I need them to work properly for my main app.

I switched to XP 64 which slowed my PC a lot.

Vista is great for gaming and everyday usage, you just have to prepare it as everything.

Hi all

Vista has been out for about 6 months wait another 3 months and it should be stable.

From long experience of MS operating systems changes right back to windows 3.0. It takes 9 months of patching before an OS or any major complex software becomes stable.

This seems to be as inflexible a part of computing as Moore's Law http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law

I have come to this opinion from over 30 years of using and programming computers. The more complex the software the more it seems that it complies to this 9 month software gestation law.

Kind Regards walker

I'm running Arma on Vista and it works fine.

Also I have an ATI x1650se (PCIe). Game works well enough for me. it stuters a bit on the highest settings, but then i've never been able to play any games on the highest sad_o.gif

In short; Vista work fine.

vista is fine

DX10 is fine

yeah vista might use slightly more ram than XP, but at the end of the day if u got less than 2GB of ram u need to get more, no matter what OS your using, if u intend on playing ArmA

8800GTX is great, especially since 1.08 patch, on teh odd occasion that there is a hiccup, VISTA restarts the graphics card - NOT THE WHOLE OS, therefore no more BSOD and random restarts due to driver issues.

for someone who uses MCE or XP to comment on VISTA is pointless, u are speculating at best, i have seen no performance drop since switching to VISTA, maybe 1-2 FPS but not the 10+ u all claim.

if anything VISTA has improved my ArmA experience.

unless u have tried the hardware and software keep your speculating opinions to yourselves.

I agree. But what we all must agree on is that ArmA is COOL!
