celery 8 Posted June 28, 2007 What are the differences between Capture and Hold, Sector Control and Advance and Secure? I know that you try to take and defend areas in every one of them, but the details seem vague. If they are so similar, why aren't they just under one game mode? Jack-UK 0 Posted June 28, 2007 Hmm, IMO Capture and Hold: Capturing larger targets i.e. towns Sector Control: Capturing small flag zones Advance and Secure: Capturing zones in a particular order... more linear gameplay. But its up to the mission maker to decide what they call it i guess.
mattxr 9 Posted June 28, 2007 Capture and Hold: - One Team will Advance on a position and try to capture it while the other team will start at that postion and try to defend it. Once Captured the defending team much capture it back within a cetain time or loose the game. Sector Control: - Two Teams Two bases 4 Flags or so, The teams will both advance to there nearest flags and capture them and have a tug of war with flags trying to capture more flags in order from there start flag will gain them more points [Note some maps dont have to have there flags captured in order] Advance and Secure: - No idea but if you ask me sounds like Sector Control with a new name. Xtremist 0 Posted June 28, 2007 Like Jack-UK said Advance and Secure: Capturing zones in a particular order... more linear gameplay. From my understanding sector controll there is no order in which you attack the sectors the team with the most points from taking the sectors wins AAS the control points have to be taken in order, once taken they become forward respawn points. Â Once all of the control points have been taken the game ends. Â Normally there is one nuetral zone in the middle that both teams race to secure the zone. Â Once that zone is secure the team gains that area as a forward spawn point then advances to the next enemy base. To gain control of the zone a team must have a larger force in the attack zone and hold the zone for a set amount of time. This style of game play makes for a more centralized battle rather than everyone going differnt ways to take randomly place sectors.

Once Captured the defending team much capture it back within a cetain time or loose the game. None of the C&H maps I have played match that description, they have multiple areas to capture and they generate points for the team that holds them and the team with most points after time runs out wins the game. Your description matches Attack and Defend. I checked out the SC map by BIS and it follows the exact same rules as what most people know as C&H. Really, what's the point of having nearly identical "hold this place for points" maps with different names when you can call them all C&H and tell in the notes that you have to take the points in order. That's what ECL does with its C&H maps.
