Weapons and Post production

Iv'e noticed that on high and very high post production settings weapons look blury and well pretty cheap compared to the sharper detail in low post production. Not only that but the front iron sights, such as with the M16A4 become less sharp and lighter in colour. I know this is trying to simulate you eye focus but it really makes it a lot harder to use iron sights. I suspect this problem is with the AK74 too but I can't tell because the rear sights are so narrow I can't see the front sights. I really think BIS should take post production off weapons if possible and make the AK's rear sights wider. Oh and make the grenade launcher sights flip up only when in use. What do people think?

Hi, i think that the back sight of the AK74's are in scale with the

weapon, the post processing you mean when you say: "post production"?;

i removed that using the video settings/advanced/ menu. I use

the AK's using the zoom In key, otherwise they only serve for CQB

in the game, in this way, kinda simulates (slowly) the required time

to aim looking through the back sight aligning it with the aim point.

Ain't like how the post processing looks in the ArmA, but the last time

that i took a look at it, was when i installed the 1.04; i think that

remove this optional effect, permanently, don't makes too much sense.

I don't use it, but other players with better computers use it; i don't

know why it should be removed, improved maybe; but removed...?, no. Let's C ya

The reason the weapon's sights go all pale and blurry with high post processing is that these settings are designed to simulate focus. It is wholly impossible to focus both on the sights of the weapon and the target in the distance. Thus the sights are set to go blurry (and thus out of focus)

If you dont like it, play with low post processing settings. smile_o.gif

Unfortunately, the implementation in ArmA does not actually "simulate" anything. It's eye candy and nothing more.

An actual simulation-level implementation would have the focus be on the front sight tip (leaving the target and terrain blurry) when actually aiming, with an accuracy penalty if not. An actual simulation-level implementation would also make holographic and reflex sights like the Aimpoint and EOTech have real-world usefulness compared to the ironsights.

ArmA's "depth of field" when applied to weapons is nothing more than eye candy. It is loosely based on realism (to be nice about it) and is not authentic or accurate and certainly should not be touted as "realistic".

Hi all

As Dslyecxi says it is eye candy for machinema and photos.

In reality any atempt to simulate the complexity of human focus on anything less than an interactive (eye sensing) VR setup is going to be limited in application.

Just turn it off.

(except for movies, photos and the like)

You will probably get an FPS improvement with it turned off too.
