Turkmenbashi 0 Posted June 13, 2007 I am really interested in RO but having to have steam puts me off. I haven't played anything on steam for maybe a year, so maybe it's better now- maybe someone could give the answers to these questions:1) Can you stop steam from starting up every time you start your computer? 2) Does it still pop up all those annoying notifications when it's running but you aren't actually using it? 3) Does the friends list actually work for more than 30 seconds now? I've heard the infantry combat in RO is excellent but that the tank's aren't nearly as realistic- any truth in this or is it just the normal whining about sides? I'm coming from a long background of games like OFP (with WGL), Arma, Combat Mission and Day of Defeat (before it got arcadified) so I think RO would suit me. 1) hyeeeees 2) hyeeeees 3) AHHYEEAAAEEKEKASSYYSYSSSS Steam's been excellent with me - all of the old problems are pretty much gone. Stable, non intrusive/annoying, working well.

You could do that from the very beginning 2. No pop ups, only steam news when you first start it. 3. Are you using Steam as a messenger or to play a game? Gisen 0 Posted June 13, 2007 Thanks turkmenbashi. Luciano ; 1) only by manually forcing it off, it wasn't an option in steam when I had it. 3) I was using the friends thing to find my mates in servers, which was handy - when (if) it worked. I wasn't chatting in game or anything. Will have to get RO soon then
celery 8 Posted June 16, 2007 Have the patches improved the mighty recoil and inaccuracy of the automated weapons since last year? I think the game was somewhere between cool and horrible. On one hand the concept is very nice and realistic for once, but the whole thing falls apart in being pseudorealistic in some things and totally arcade in others. The result is a deformed child of unholy marriage.

It's a balanced FPS with an *inclination* to realism, so it does cut as a bit of a hybrid - if you're after an extreme in anything you probably won't like it. The SMG recoil is still a bit silly but perfectly managable for hipshooting. The result is an excellent game with some niggles :P But that's subjective, of course.
