reserved memory problem

Recommended Posts

i have a problem with my OFP, when i go to start one of the missions ive created i get kicked back to the desktop, on one occasion i got an error about that its out of reserved memory and a code change is required. anyway i looked this up on AVs FAQ and its says:

"Set your Windows virtual swap file's maximum size to 1000. Reboot and see if that resolves the problem."

how do you do that? ti wuld be nice to know the solution to the solution of the problem....if that makes any sense... confused.gif

In Windows 98, for example, under CONTROL PANEL, open up SYSTEM. There, click on the PERFORMANCE tab. On the bottom of that window, there is now a button labeled VIRTUAL MEMORY. Click it. Then select "LET ME SPECIFY MY OWN VIRTUAL MEMORY SETTINGS" and specify 500 minimum and 1000 maximum.

Another setting that works well is to provide a static virtual memory size, that is, set both min/max to the same size. Why, I do not know, but 2x the amount of your ram as the setting size seems to work well. Here is a short site with a lot of little memory tweaks that I use:

http://avondell.com/ww2ol/main.html

The guy created it as a help site for people having problems with ww2ol - undoubtedly the biggest resource monster out there. The suggestions work well for any game, however.

Good luck.

Ok i found the problem, but im not sure how to fix it. I tested removing different files form the mission folder, and found that the mission does load and run fine as long as the briefing.html file isn't in the mission folder or part of the pbo archive. does anyone know why the briefing.html could be causing me to be kicked back to the desktop? heres whats in the file incase anyone can spot a problem

My God Acid!

While I'm not getting an error message, I am having the EXACT same puzzling problem with missions that I create. When I add the html file to the mission.sqm in the folder, it crashes me to the desktop. I hope someone around here has a clue what is going on with this.

Bump.

Could you two be using the same template or breifing generator? If so, try another breifing generator program.

Or are you making them from scratch?

my briefing.html file is made from scratch using the briefing template on the official flashpoint site. i also tried using a briefing generator and i still have the same problem. strangely though i had used the exact same breifing generator to make a briefing for a previous mission that i have created, and i have no problems with that one. im not actually getting any erros, i only got the virtual memory one, once and i have fixed that. Could it possibly be that the game only supports a certain amount of objectives in the briefing? i mean i have like 6, even though three of them are just call support team ones.

The briefing generator I use, Mission Assistant, only has spaces for 6 objectives, that is OBJ0, OBJ1, OBJ2, OBJ3, OBJ4 and OBJ5.

It must be the problem.

Like i said, this briefings done from scratch, unless its the briefing numbers i put down, as both in my mission triggers, and in the briefing file i started the breifing numbers from 1 and not 0 so i have: OBJ_1, OBJ_2, OBJ_3, OBJ_4, OBJ_5, OBJ_6. Are you meant to start all breifing numbers from 0?

Well i changed it in the briefing file and on the triggers, setting the objective numbers to start at 0, and i also removed the objective of radioing the last support eam and made them move in by themselves on their own when a variable is set to true, so it removed an objective aswell, so theres now only five, nd the numbers stop at 4, and guess what? it still dont bloody work. again kicked back to the desktop with no warning or errors for no goddam reason.

Have you checked the Flashpoint.rpt file in OFP's base directory to see if OFP reported what caused the crash?

Re - Briefing editor - I've used Briefing Assistant and Mission editing assistant, and used templates from the official site, as well as templates from the OpFPediting center manual. I've tried each of these methods, several times. I do have six objectives, all named OBJ_1 through 6.

i dunno but i hope it is fixable coz i aint scrappin this mission ive spent bloody ages on it and it would really suck without the brieifng, coz that also means no gear selection either.

No need to scrap the mission, just use another breifing generator like The OFP Mission Assistant (v. 1.2.0003) . It has the ability to make the weapons selection code in the description.ext file. It will create a new description.ext file on top of the old one so just copy any other code you may have had in it.

Thanks for your help Intruder, but that briefing generator is one of the ones that I used in trying to make my briefing (I believe I used two different versions of that generator, plus another generator, plus three separate templates - - same result).

Does anyone know what we are supposed to do with those crash reports we posted here?

hmm...well i tried using that generator, and when i went to make the debriefings i got the error that there were no end conditions in the mission, which is weird oz i have made like three ending triggers based on completing and failing objectives, but it keeps saying that there isn't any. Could this be the problem? that the breifing file contains debriefings but the game is kicking me back to the desktop coz it doesn't think that there are any end conditions?

Made no difference with regard to my problem Acid. I got the same "warning" or whatever you call it, the first time I tried that editor. I then went back to the mission and included end triggers and short debriefings for endings 1 and 2.  I am convinced now that it is not the presence or absence of anything within the briefing that I have created that is causing this. It's not the use of any "editor" or "template" unless every one of them out there available for public use is wrong as well and no one has ever noticed it, because I've made several attempts with EACH one of these out there as well as doing it from scratch.

If your problem is the same as mine, and it sure looks like it, we need someone to look at those crash reports and tell us what the problem is.

I've noticed this too, OFP Assitant doesn't seem to find any end conditions, but what I do is copy the the last part of a template (the end conditions section) and past it over the the one created by the generator, and it works fine.

BTW, just saw your mission reviewed by Hangfyre, Resistance, over at OFP.org gonna try it out now  biggrin.gif

Have you ever tried to use an existing (well-working)

briefing [you may find one in your templates folder, which

came with patch 1.3].

On the first try, don't change anything, just have a look

if you'll crash again. Then start changing some things,

and do it step by step, until you crash again, or maybe

no more (crash).

Yeah thats my very first mission, so dont be surprised if it sucks. you have 11 troops in your command and play as the resistance. the attackers have a whole squad of infantry, 3 BMPs and a T72. A few Spetz Natz etc. In later versions i will extend the mission so that you get reinforced by other resistance fighters or NATO and must move on to take out the base that sent the russian attack, and include more things like radio conversations paradrops etc.

Btw whats the link to where it is? i just tried ofp.org and i got some site like "Oregon Fire Page" and im pretty sure thats not the right site. I only used a search engine to find OFP missions and then submitted mine to a few.
