Delta Force ?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone around here could tell me a little about Delta Force. What branch are they out of? Is there anything higher rated in the US? What are they doing now days? All I know is they are counter-terrorist spec ops that I hear are very very good. I saw Black Hawk Down the other day and I was wondering.

Delat force is a rather small group, they are not admitted to exist by the gov, contrary to some movies their gole is not going out and fighting hundreds of enemy, their main missions include hostage rescue, capturing higher ups and to a somehwat lesser degree gathering intellegence, they are cross trained so each individual can do the same job as anyone else.  they are trained in most all small arms of the world and gnenrally dont use many really heavy weapons...  they are more or less the very best of the very best in their given specialty areas areas.. and 90% of what they do we never will know about... as far as I know they can come from any branch.. and are voulenteer only.... nobody HAS to be in delta.. but if your REALLY REALLY good you can try out..

I wonder what they get paid?

I would not want the after me. wink.gif

The U.S. Government deny that they exist, but anyone who knows anything about Special Forces will tell you they do.

1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta (SFOD_D)was set up in 1977 by U.S. Army Colonel Charles Beckwith. Col. Beckwith had served a year on exchange with Britains 22nd SAS Regiment (1962-63) and modeled Delta accordingly.

Delta is divided into three operational squadrons (A, B, C) which are subdivided into smaller troops. They operate out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Most come to Delta from the Rangers, however candidates can come from and Army branch. Very few candidates (30% I think) actually qualify for Delta.

Examples of their operations include:

1989 - The rescue of American citizens at the start of Operation Just Cause

1991 - Scud Hunting in Northern Iraq.

1993 - Part of Task Force Ranger, assigned to capture warlord Mohamad Farah Aidid.

Hope that answers a few questions. For more info check out

I Dissagree. I think the SAS are much more similar the Delta than to the SEALS, but both views are valid on a certain level.

SAS and Delta are similar in that excell in AT tactics, and very specific targets.

SAS and the SEALS are similar in that they work very well harrassing enemy troops behind the lines.

I guess it depends on your own point of view.

I know something similar from our army. The KSK are units made up of teams, usually never more than 4 persons. They are trained universally and not specialised on a single weapon, or a single climate. They may have families but the families are not allowed to be informed about what the husband is doing. Before we had the GSG9 unit (still exists but much smaller) which was used in Jugoslawia after the war to smoke out and kidnap high ranked war-criminals.

Actually Charly Beckwith modeled the delta force after the SAS. He also has spend quite some time with the SAS. And there are some good (funny) stories about Charly and the SAS together in the Jungle.

Unlike the Rangers or the Special Forces you have to be picked for Delta, you can't just try out if even if you wanted to.

I knew Col. Beckwith modeled Delta after the SAS, (I said it in an earlier post). I'd like to here those stories.

During the Delta selection. The instructors take all luxury items from the trainees.. including watches.

Then, they do not force any trainee to do anything. They do not even wake the recruits up in order for them to catch trucks etc. to transport them to the training fields.. However if you don't wake up by yourself, you are out of the program.

In fact, from what little is written or said about their training program, alot of the time the instructors aren't even seen by the Delta hopefuls.

yea I heard they do shom strange shit to them.. I.E. to test the threshhold of a soldiers sanity they put them(one at a time) in a dark room with no means of knowing time.. with acoustical dampening and forbid them to speak.. with no sound or other activity the ability to judge time becomes more and more blurred. miniutes feel like hours.. it will drive some people literally insane because the natural "feeling" of life is gone.. you dont know how long you have been there.. could be 5 minutes could be 3 hours... freaky shit..

if you make a peep.. your out.

They don't get 48 hours to read the book and write a book report, they have to train for 48 hours, and then read and write.
