CrossFire 0 Posted April 26, 2007 All, I have been trying to reproduce this issue to no avail. I need everyones help to be able to properly do this. If we can reproduce the issue, we can most likely figure out what is causing this leak. I have seen several Catalyst Crew Feedback entries, but no one is posting images of the leak nor am I getting exact system specs or exact steps to reproduce the issue. Dwarden 1125 Posted April 26, 2007 it's very easy to reproduce this as i already wrote here in forum (at least 3 times) needed: Windows XP Pro / Home SP2 32bit Catalyst AMD.ATI 7.4 drivers Intel Core2Duo, Intel Core, Intel P4 CPU Intel chipsets (maybe affects SIS,NVIDIA owners too) ... run ArmA in fullscreen or windowed mode and let it e.g. run background menu rendering then watch handles counter for ArmA ... it will grow rapidly with 5-50 handles per second (depends on resolution, visual settings and scene complexity) simple, already reported for nearly 3 months to AMD.ATI ... CrossFire 0 Posted April 26, 2007 You provided a portion of what I was asking for. I need exact steps.I also need to know which ATI product you have installed and if possible the product part number and make/model of your motherboard. Please provide exact steps for both and possibly an image of the handles and screens 1. run ArmA in fullscreen or windowed mode and let it e.g. run background menu rendering 2. then watch handles counter for ArmA ... it will grow rapidly with 5-50 handles per second (depends on resolution, visual settings and scene complexity) RE: simple, already reported for nearly 3 months to AMD.ATI ... So you think. I am not here for you to tell me that this has been reported to AMD/ATI 3 months ago. So do your self a favor and lets not go there. I am here to investigate this issue and if you want to help then great.
thr0tt 12 Posted April 26, 2007 I understand that this may be more of an Intel system problem now rather than AMD, I may be wrong. i.e. It is visible in Intel systems more so than AMD systems.
-TwK-Danny 0 Posted April 26, 2007 ATi is finally here and are trying to fix this issue. Now lets try to answer them properly instead of talking about stuff that really has nothing to do with anything. Ive had other ATi devs contacting me and crossfire is not the only dev that cannot get the problem reproduced. So nothing is that simple. 1. One big question is if this happens with the newly released N.America demo, eg the ArmA:Combat Operations demo. Does anyone know if the combo 7.4 drivers and ArmA:CO suffers from this leak? 2. Could everyone that has suffered from this issue post full system specs like i will. Use my "model" to post information aswell. I suffered from this issue in patch 1.04-1.05 - using cat drivers 6.12, 7.1, 7.2. CPU: AMDX2 4400+ (dualcore optimizer installed) Mobo: ASUS A8R-MVP Crossfire (Xpress1600) BIOS 0402 (tried 0503, and 0604 - no diffrence) Soundcard: Soundmax onboard. GPU: ASUS EAX1800XT TOP (X1800XTPE = runs 700/1600) OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 all (yes, every1 of them) updates installed. Directx: Version from april2007. I am here to investigate this issue and if you want to help then great. ATI products tested X1950pro, X1950XT, X1650XT and maybe X1650pro (but to be fair it's quite long time since i tested it on 1650pro) videocard manufacturers range from Sapphire, HIS and ASUS tested mainboard was ASUS P5B-E , P5B-E Plus, some other P5B series then several FoxConns etc all with Intel P965 i also reported it to AMD.ATI support, my ticket number is 737-1210970 game version 1.05 retail international and post 1.05 beta patch Quote[/b] ]So you think. CrossFire 0 Posted April 26, 2007 Thanks... This is good. To this date we have not been able to reproduce this issue. Has anyone tried the 1.06 patch/version?

Noope, I did a reformat and I´m using the 7.4 drivers now but i haven´t gotten around to actually installing ArmA. I will try it soon but school is taking all the free time I have. Dwarden 1125 Posted April 26, 2007 screenshot , no demo version i use last retail leak count (at bottom) is after 5 minutes of running in windowed mode with Process Explorer under ... leaks increasin only if something is rendered (if you get ArmA to static / blank page stage no changes in handles)
CrossFire 0 Posted April 26, 2007 Dwarden that screen shot actually helped. Thanks again. I will keep everyone posted.
CrossFire 0 Posted April 26, 2007 We are now able to reproduce this issue internally. An article will be published shortly on our support website. I cant promise when this issue will be addressed or in which display driver. But we are now aware of the issue and currently working on it. Thanks again to everyone who assisted. Mr_Tea 0 Posted April 26, 2007 This thread should be closed, the problem is caused by an error in the "highly praised" ATI drivers. Also there are other threads about this problem, so why let another one open?
NeMeSiS 11 Posted April 26, 2007 Also there are other threads about this problem, so why let another one open? Because it sounds like an Ati developer is speaking here, now the issue can be fixed instead of being discussed (read: being whined over).
Mr_Tea 0 Posted April 26, 2007 It sounds like..., yeah. Anyways, their are many threads about problems with the ATI drivers, a few too many.
Abbe 0 Posted April 26, 2007 ...just wish I could figure out how they ran ArmA + ATI Driver *without* the bug... /Abbe
Dwarden 1125 Posted April 26, 2007 Mr.Tea actually he is from AMD.ATI aka look what just appeared http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894 victory over bugs is "ALL MINE" ... erm i mean all of us who reported it thanks anyone from AMD.ATI for the time investing in investigation and fixing, for all who reported and were plagued by evil bug now looking forward to fixed drivers  p.s. lol i love the KB text (so softy and careful) Quote[/b] ]"While playing Armed Assaut, users may notice a handle leak being displayed in the task manager. Users may or may not experience ingame symptoms of this issue. " sounds like no issue if it happens just in task manager ... but IRL it cripples ArmA to unplayable after 10-60mins
Key Dutch 0 Posted April 27, 2007 well, at least we know right now, they working on it. be onest was not have this problem on my system, but i use 6.11 drivers anyway. folding@home work better on them.
Brophmeister 0 Posted April 27, 2007 Heya, I have these specs with the handle leak problem: Pentium C 3.2ghz 1gb RAM ATI Radeon X1600 with 7.4 drivers I have also tried 7.2, 7.1, 7.0 and 6.8 (I think) with the same issue. 6.8 drivers seemed to have the least crashes (at least on my system) but also poor performance in ARMA. Mr_Tea 0 Posted April 27, 2007 Good luck for all ATI users, that you can play Arma soon without that problem. I`m an Nvidia fanboy, but i`m posted not because of that. Glad to see someone from AMD/ATI over here, to have a look at that problem.
