Armed Assault Handle Leak Issue

Recommended Posts

All,

I have been trying to reproduce this issue to no avail. I need everyones help to be able to properly do this. If we can reproduce the issue, we can most likely figure out what is causing this leak.

I have seen several Catalyst Crew Feedback entries, but no one is posting images of the leak nor am I getting exact system specs or exact steps to reproduce the issue.

it's very easy to reproduce this as i already wrote here in forum (at least 3 times)

needed:

Windows XP Pro / Home SP2 32bit

Catalyst AMD.ATI 7.4 drivers

Intel Core2Duo, Intel Core, Intel P4 CPU

Intel chipsets (maybe affects SIS,NVIDIA owners too) ...

run ArmA in fullscreen or windowed mode and let it e.g. run background menu rendering

then watch handles counter for ArmA ... it will grow rapidly with 5-50 handles per second (depends on resolution, visual settings and scene complexity)

simple, already reported for nearly 3 months to AMD.ATI ...

You provided a portion of what I was asking for. I need exact steps.I also need to know which ATI product you have installed and if possible the product part number and make/model of your motherboard.

Please provide exact steps for both and possibly an image of the handles and screens

1. run ArmA in fullscreen or windowed mode and let it e.g. run background menu rendering

2. then watch handles counter for ArmA ... it will grow rapidly with 5-50 handles per second (depends on resolution, visual settings and scene complexity)

RE: simple, already reported for nearly 3 months to AMD.ATI ...

So you think. I am not here for you to tell me that this has been reported to AMD/ATI 3 months ago. So do your self a favor and lets not go there.

I am here to investigate this issue and if you want to help then great.

I understand that this may be more of an Intel system problem now rather than AMD, I may be wrong.

i.e. It is visible in Intel systems more so than AMD systems.

ATi is finally here and are trying to fix this issue. Now lets try to answer them properly instead of talking about stuff that really has nothing to do with anything.

Ive had other ATi devs contacting me and crossfire is not the only dev that cannot get the problem reproduced. So nothing is that simple.

1. One big question is if this happens with the newly released N.America demo, eg the ArmA:Combat Operations demo. Does anyone know if the combo 7.4 drivers and ArmA:CO suffers from this leak?

2. Could everyone that has suffered from this issue post full system specs like i will. Use my "model" to post information aswell.

I suffered from this issue in patch 1.04-1.05 - using cat drivers 6.12, 7.1, 7.2.

CPU: AMDX2 4400+ (dualcore optimizer installed)

Mobo: ASUS A8R-MVP Crossfire (Xpress1600) BIOS 0402 (tried 0503, and 0604 - no diffrence)

Soundcard: Soundmax onboard.

GPU: ASUS EAX1800XT TOP (X1800XTPE = runs 700/1600)

OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 all (yes, every1 of them) updates installed.

Directx: Version from april2007.

ATI products tested

X1950pro, X1950XT, X1650XT and maybe X1650pro (but to be fair it's quite long time since i tested it on 1650pro)

videocard manufacturers range from Sapphire, HIS and ASUS

tested mainboard was ASUS P5B-E , P5B-E Plus, some other P5B series then several FoxConns etc all with Intel P965

i also reported it to AMD.ATI support, my ticket number is 737-1210970

game version 1.05 retail international and post 1.05 beta patch

amyway i don't know You are from AMD.ATI (tester, programmer, QA staff or w/e)

so i answered You in style for normal user asking about the leak and how replicate it

and i was thinking You AMD platform wondering why the hell no leak smile_o.gif (my mistake i admit)...

dropping hint Your from AMD.ATI could improve the info You gain a lot ...

also i already stated facts about it was reported on numerous times in past monthsto AMD.ATI by multiple ArmA users ...

that's not some style of "go away" as You think in fact i'm very happy to see anyone with interest ...

Thanks... This is good. To this date we have not been able to reproduce this issue. Has anyone tried the 1.06 patch/version?

P4 3.4 Northwood

Mainboard : Abit IC7-G Max2 , bios v.28

2gigs corsair XMS Twin X 3200

Visiontek X1950pro AGP (forced driver 6.7 with no leak, but any above 6.7 and the leak is there)

Creative X-Fi Fatality pro

XP pro SP2 all current

Sorry can not produce screenshot at the moment huh.gif

While in the game, alt+tab out and check the handle count on arma.exe. Do this every 5-10 minutes and you'll will see the count go up and up and up!

The handle count in task manager? It would be great if you could provide an image of what you see.

Thanks

We are now able to reproduce this issue internally. An article will be published shortly on our support website.

I cant promise when this issue will be addressed or in which display driver. But we are now aware of the issue and currently working on it.

Thanks again to everyone who assisted.

This thread should be closed, the problem is caused by an error in the "highly praised" ATI drivers.

Also there are other threads about this problem, so why let another one open? huh.gif

Because it sounds like an Ati developer is speaking here, now the issue can be fixed instead of being discussed (read: being whined over). tounge2.gif

It sounds like..., yeah.

Anyways, their are many threads about problems with the ATI drivers, a few too many.

"While playing Armed Assaut, users may notice a handle leak being displayed in the task manager. Users may or may not experience ingame symptoms of this issue. "

sounds like no issue if it happens just in task manager smile_o.gif ... but IRL it cripples ArmA to unplayable after 10-60mins

Heya, I have these specs with the handle leak problem:

Pentium C 3.2ghz

1gb RAM

ATI Radeon X1600 with 7.4 drivers

I have also tried 7.2, 7.1, 7.0 and 6.8 (I think) with the same issue. 6.8 drivers seemed to have the least crashes (at least on my system) but also poor performance in ARMA.

Good luck for all ATI users, that you can play Arma soon without that problem. smile_o.gif

I`m an Nvidia fanboy, but i`m posted not because of that.

Glad to see someone from AMD/ATI over here, to have a look at that problem. thumbs-up.gif
