sniper aiming & "super" enemy AI riflemen

Recommended Posts

..........playing retail DVD release patched to 1.05

hello,

I've just started fighting with ArmA a few days ago and I've noticed:

- that the MIL-dot reticule aiming system seems not reliable at all: I've had a task to suppress an enemy platoon and I was able to hit targets beyond 300mt aiming with the upper vertical dots (just like the weapon was zeroed at 500-600mt), meanwhile I could kill enemies aiming dead on at 100 mt !?  crazy_o.gifsmile_o.gif

-  that enemy AI is able to shoot and kill (me) almost at once from a distance and in standing position, meanwhile I'm prone and behind a minimun cover (playing normal AI settings)

are those known issues? or did I do something wrong?

could they be fixed?

that's the way it is? smile_o.gif

thanks

Hey!

welcome to the forums.

Well yeah... it is known that the AI is a very good shooter. This is something you have to deal with... you'll improve more and more and you will cope with situations better.

I cant say too much about the scope of the M24 ... but I guess that it is no designed to be accurate. I know that the SVD PSO1 scope isnt modelled correctly.

Advise: train, train, train ... smile_o.gif

cheers!

No one explained that you were up against an army of RoboCops?

Actually I too, find it a bit odd how the enemy "magically" can see you at a distance and behind cover. It's virtually impossible to sneak around. They all "come-a-runnin" as if they had IR heat seeking super vision. My complaint isn't with their accuracy, but with their target acquisition.

thats why in my addons i am giving to the people different configs for weapons, with BIS values and with shorter AI range of fire to make single mission more enjoyable of playing

comparing to OFP in ARMA AI is super knowing

in early versions of OFP there were errors like shooting through the wall, moving through the wall but this was model error, in OFP weapons were even 10 times more accurate than in ARMA but AI was more disorientated than in ARMA

in ARMA weapons have worse accuracy than in OFP many times but "eye, ear" sensitivity is sometimes too high

i remember situations, when i am playing as SLA sniper

250 meters from me there are 2 soldiers (not in grop, they cannot share informations)

i am near the big tree, near bush, hidden (i think)

i am shooting one man

before my SVD is able to another shot (recoil), before i was aiming at second man

he falls into ground and fires man shots ans kills me, sometimes we kill each other (his bullets fly to me, i see him killed, but hiss bullets reaching me)

in ARMA BIS haven't given "disorientation" to AI

if i shoot man, where the f*** other man knows exactly where i am ?

in OFP there were stupid situations - you fire RPG to tank, crew gets out kills you by one shot from 300 m before you will reload rpg (while AKSU is short subcarbine used at max range 200 meters) and tank is exploading and this crew is dead smile_o.gif

it was nonsense, they new exactly where AT soldier was

but now we have ARMA, over 5 years from RES , 7 years from OFP CWC and AI still is ***

Thats a good point Vilas!

I've seen a.i. doing what i cant do and it makes me feel cheated, a.i. shooting acurately over long distances in full auto.

But what really pisses me off is taking down vehicles.

-Shoot stinger/strella at a.i. helicopter.

-Helicopter crash lands near me.

The moment they disembark they know milimetrically where i shot the missile from and will shoot me before i even switch back to my rifle.

The bots survived a crash land and were spinning up there for a bit, they were supposed to be disoriented and injured..

The same is true about tanks and other vehicles. The moment the vehicle is hit the a.i. knows the milimetric position of the shooter, instead of running away from the vehicle because it might blow up or catch on fire they just prone and kill you like in 2 seconds.

Its weird confused_o.gif .

more than "weird",

I feel it's a liiiittle annoying that it looks like, after a game like RainbowSix-Vegas in which trial and error was most of times the only tactic  mad_o.gif  smile_o.gif , I've just bought another one that's going the same way  mad_o.gif  sad_o.gif  banghead.gif  smile_o.gif

I really hope you're a little right .......

Wrong, but this doesnt need to be explained AGAIN, we have discussed this to death already, although its an interesting subject saying the same things over and over again gets boring after a while.

i wouldn't worry about it mate, the very first time i started ARMA i went to the editor and set a squad of opfor on one side of the port at corozol and i sat up on the other side of the bay across the water(bout 700m away) i got 2 shots off and got shot right in the face, it was the 2nd or 3rd round to come my way and it killed me stone dead. you just get used to it after a while

The AI in Far Cry was also like this, it's common in 80% of games, even the supposedly 'realistic' ones. The AI is blind in the other 20% of games. :P

The Thief games had some good, limited situational awareness, AI.

last night i tried offical mission battlefield, and the AI doesnt seems to be that accrate, most of the time they needed atless 5 to 6 rounds of shooting to kill me, which i only need 3 if i aim correctly

whats the problem is that AI always know where you are, like last night when i was playing my AI leader keep reporting and ordering me to kill a MG gunner 500m away, with lots of things that block your view, i could see the target for a few secound, b4 he ran behind a bush or tree or something which i cant see

............. maybe Mr. 8 posts would have appreciated a link too to the already-discussed-to-death boring topic, that Mr. 8 posts did not find searching the forum smile_o.gif

kestrel7e7,

in Far Cry hardly you die of one single shot ......
