og.. 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Mentioned in another thread, but imo deserves its own. Regarding MBTs: "Would people rather have the old "bracket fire, adjust elevation" shooting we have now, or replace it with a feature that simulates the lase/shoot-hit option (which I assume could be simulated ingame by having very flat trajectories). We could have both the old (if ppl still like to lob shells) and the new flat trajectory. This is for PvP vehicles. If there actually are features that can simulate the lase accuratly ala Steel Beasts id love to have that of course, but as we know, compromises between actual 100 percent realistic features and what we have ingame do exist....... so, would the compromise do?" Could this be implemented by having near zero mass on the projectiles? Any other ways of simulating this? Thoughts?
Metal Heart 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Object's mass doesn't change the gravitational acceleration affecting it, only the force I think BIS really needs to add the adjustable sights, after all, even the Delta Force games had those years back. Those would solve this problem too perhaps, along with the scripting possibility to find out how far the gun is currently pointing (like the command cursor but readable via a scripting command). frederf 0 Posted April 6, 2007 You could have the fire command execute a short script that gets range to target (WGL had a nice laser designator range finder), raises the barrel a little bit based on a range/elevation formula, then fires the cannon. That way it would adjust your aim very quickly and fire the round so it was "auto ranged" is this what you'd like? The better way is to have adjustable sights and have the laser rangefinder automatically adjust the sight elevation via a script and leave shooting up to the gunner. Scrub 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Would it be as simple as a lookup table derived from experimental data to add onto the elevation axis prior to firing? Interrupting the normal fire, of course, with an event handler? This way it would be light on the calculations.
Barely-injured 0 Posted April 8, 2007 may be If someone one can modify the target box to include some sort of a small circle for example that lead the target or goes above it depending on the range and speed, i.e it tells were you should aim inorder to make a hit, of course it is far from perfect but maybe it is a step in the right direction. Also I am not sure if the target box can be modified like that in the first place. I have no moding experience just making a suggestion.
dm 9 Posted April 8, 2007 The target box is hardcoded AFAIK. Also, the target diamond does essentially what you're suggesting (the box gains the diamond when you're aiming at the right spot to score a hit) However, this still needs the sight to be raised quite a way if you're trying to score hits at ~3km. The lase/lead computations done by modern fire-control computers will adjust the barrel automatically so that the target can remain in the center of the crosshairs. What we're using at the moment is more like the equivalent of the gunners backup sight on the M1/T72, which elevates along with the barrel.
og.. 0 Posted April 9, 2007 The diamond will be there for object targets. Non objects like plain terrain wont have it. How to workaround that area.
