DieAngel 0 Posted March 27, 2007 I have been drooling on the great cockpits of the lock on game and addons and i was wondering how complex could we make the interior lod of a copter/aircraft. As far as i understood we can have simple animations, like switch flipping and stuff, is it possible to use them on an interior vehicle lod, like when moving the landing gear down, the interior has the actual switches and lights animated. In short is it possible to have hyper detailed cockpits for user made helicopters and vehicles?
MehMan 0 Posted March 27, 2007 I've seen some of them done in OFP, so I don't see why they shouldn't be possible in ArmA.

Yeah its easy to do, some of the aircraft im working on have very high detailed functional displays and nav aids
Heatseeker 0 Posted March 27, 2007 The OWP helicopters had animations for starting the engines and opening the side windows, i think they were the first to make this. Vehicle interiors... how much i miss them in tanks .
DieAngel 0 Posted March 27, 2007 too bad we haven't (yet , hopefully it might come) a more finer control on writing unexpected capabilities to vehicles and objects in general (doom3 had this neat capability that allowed to program interactive display interfaces on objects, i would look forward for ways to make really complex vehicles and working cockpit gauges (so far i know we can do a few, but as far as i know we can't create new elements, like gauges displaying airspeed, radars or cameras ,vehicle status, ...) would be just... great? There are ways to improve the instrumentation and displays in ArmA now. The ability to inherit information from other animation sources make repeater displays possible now. And a variety of other stuff is also possible if you combine that with scripts. Give it a while and i'm sure you'll see community made addons appearing with far more complex cockpits than BIS have given us to date.
ebud 18 Posted March 27, 2007 Vehicle interiors... how much i miss them in tanks . I have to disagree totally here. They are nice, but I have never once missed them. In OFP the only time I ever saw them was when I initially jumped in the vehicle. Every other second was in a scope view looking out. They are fluff unless there is a good reason to have them. I think interiors were one of the main reasons a lot of vehicles were never finished or started. If they have them fine, if not I personally don't miss them one single bit. I'd rather have more vehicles than fewer if interiors are the deciding factor

I'd rather have more vehicles than fewer if interiors are the deciding factor I'd rather have fewer but better . For example drive the M113 around with free look in first person, thats an example of a well done and usefull interior imo. Its not fully detailed or pretty but its imersive and above everything functional. Its also a matter of interaction feel for me, now i just feel like im part of the vehicle instead of being inside it. In OPF i remember seeing a dead or injured driver or commander inside my MBT and thinking: Oh shit! Now you can tell the guy sitting next to you is dead by reading in the text "1 is down!" The missing interiors give the game a double standard that i dislike, the stryker and M113 are good, the other vehicles are for the a.i. We got better models and the MG turret but we lost something important that set the game appart imo .
DieAngel 0 Posted March 28, 2007 how many triangles are alright for a vehicle interior? like hm, lets say for an helicopter cockpit?
