Antba 0 Posted March 16, 2007 PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I returned to Windows XP, Vista sux(it was working on Vista but very slow), I downloaded all the newest drivers for my MB and VGA, I didn´t use no one from CD, and now I am playing ArmA in XP without slowdowns and no -maxmem command or something, very nice yes guys, driver problem, thanks for all the help, I hope that other people that see my topic get their problem solved. Hello, I got ArmA few weeks ago, it´s a VERY nice game, but I got serious problems with crash, I saw this forum and I saw other people with this problem, but they solved their problem with the maxmem command, but in my ArmA, I putted this command on the shortcut and didn´t solve anything, it always crash, when I open the game, or with a maximum of 5 minutes of gameplay(some maps don´t crash, but they are rares), and I need to close the ArmA process with ctrl+alt+del because it crashes but stay processing, it´s IMPOSSIBLE to play the campaign, on the first mission, from beggining to the part that they exit the car, I got around 12 crashes. I am SURE it´s not hardware or software problem(I formated my PC some days ago and the hardware is OK), I have too many other games with no problems, I think the Hz frequency isn´t the problem either, my monitor Hz frequency is 60, the ArmA for default uses 75, but I changed to 60 and didn´t solve, the graphics I used from very low to high and always crashes, I used the standard version of the game and 1.05, and....... CRAAAAAAAASHES. (the shortcut DESTINATION:" D:\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\arma.exe" -maxmem=512") My system: Athlon64 3200 1GB Kingstom Dual GF 7600GS 256/256(or 256/128, don´t remember) A8N-E Directx 9.0c Windows XP SP2 ArmA 1.05 English I want to know if you guys have some solution for me, a command, an alteration in the game, ANYTHING that can help me to play without crashes to desktop. PLEASE HELP. I am sorry for the long topic, but I wanted to do it with details. Thanks a lot. edit: I tried to update OpenAL32.dll file right now, SURPRIIIIIISE, didn´t work either
troop 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Fresh format, you say? Do you get any error message, when the crash occurs? Please post. If non message visible (just pure CTD), then please browse your C: drive for the 'arma.rpt' file and check the latest, bottom entrys in that file. If it is always the same error mentioned in there, then please post the last 5 lines which contain the error. -- Apart from that all, heres more to check for: Latest Bios for your MB installed? troop 0 Posted March 18, 2007 I am very sorry, Antba, nothing you tried helped to solve the crashes. Your GFX-card driver is ok, I think. 93.81beta and 97.92 here; see below. Since you got your other games running, this is an really bad problem you got there with ArmA only. Whats more, I am really (not?) out of ideas here. Maybe some more;..do you use an quality PSU? powersupply? And another idea comes to mind;..check all your powercables for good seat..also check, if your GFX-card and/or its powercable are firmly fixed in slot/connector. Ohh;..and while you have your PC open (if you want to try, that is) do you use the 2 blue slots; dual-channel for your RAM? You also should try the 2 black ones; or even, for testing, use one blue and one black close together for an single-channel configuration. If you got the time and will, also try one RAM-stick only. Well, its worth an try and cheap. - Do you have another, *very* heavily taxing game, which at least runs good for an hour? How many devices do you have hooked up on that PSU, and how strong is it? - I have installed ArmA on 3 different systems for testing, and 1.05 runs on any of these without crashing;..unless I really force it to do so. (8007000E error) NForce 2(A7N8X-X) + NV6800GT GLH 256MB AGP NForce 3(K8N Neo 2) + NV7800GS+ 512MB AGP NForce 4(A8N32-SLi) + NV8800GTS 640MB PCIe For NForce 2 and 3, I use the 8.22 v5.0 remix chipset drivers For NForce 4 the 9.35 remix ones. All of those drivers are beta/unofficial ones. (because of newer file versions than official) Soundcards; top to bottom: SBLife! Audigy 1 Audigy 2 ZS I *also* tried the onboard sound solutions on all three setups; one NVidia MCP and 2 Realtek850s one, because of soundcuts in heavily populated missions. But no crashes; let alone every 5 Minutes like you get them...really bad. -- Maybe you still want to check the suggestions above? It could be something stupidly simple..like an failed Northbridge fan... Apart from that..the only cheap alternative is to wait for patch 1.06 and hope for the best. :/ I hate to write this.. Antba 0 Posted March 19, 2007 I don´t know if it´s powersupply, but I use seventeam 420W, very good, I use dual-channel, and all other components are okay, I play Flight Simulator X for 5 hours and it doesn´t crash, all other games are okay(like dark messiah and oblivion). well, I think I will need to wait until patch 1.06 troop, every single day I visit ArmA site to see if they released the 1.06 patch, I hope they release it fast. Thanks a lot for your help man
Bad Pilot 0 Posted March 19, 2007 My game used to crash all the time and now it never crashes. I did a lot of fiddling so I'm not sure exactly what was required. Some things seemed important though. The first rule of ArmA is your video card can't handle as much as you think it can. It's not usually the drivers that cause the problems, just the amount of work the game demands. For the sake of testing stability, reduce your video settings to the minimum. If you've got AGP (I don't think you have), reduce the AGP aperture to 128MB or maybe 64MB. Overloading video can cause CTD. The game audio is particularly sensitive also. If you've got 2 souncards installed, be very sure which card is doing what. Find the latest drivers for your exact audio chips and install them. Update DirectX again. Do a successful(! update from www.openal.org or from the installer on the DVD. Then run dxdiag (Start, Run, dxdiag) and turn of audio acceleration. In game, turn off audio hardware acceleration and EAX. Take off all overclocking until later. It's more fun tweaking a machine that works than having a turbo-charged machine that crashes all the time. Doing all that and more worked for me and I'm eternally glad I did it because the game is the best I've ever seen - and I've never even seen it with high settings. Gameplay, teamwork, realism/immersive environment - it rocks and rocks and rocks. It's still got bugs but so what? I don't play the bugs, I play the game. I'm happy with my 18-25fps! Rather 18fps of this than 30 of Battlefield . Good luck!
Bad Pilot 0 Posted March 19, 2007 After I turned off all acceleration and isntalled 2 other soundcards and the game became stable, I went back to my original soundcard and now run it all with acceleration on maximum. Maybe all I needed to do was delete my soundcards in Windows XP, reboot, reinstall/update, install openal and play.
Antba 0 Posted March 19, 2007 Hello Mr Fenix, well, I changed my soundcard to the second one, disabled hardware acceleration, disabled EAX and hardware acceleration on the game, changed to low video settings, and craaaaaaaaash but thank you too
troop 0 Posted March 19, 2007 Damn! You wrote before, your search did not turn up the 'arma.rpt' file. Please check this location for the file: - C:\documents and settings\YOURUSERNAME\local settings\application data\Arma\arma.rpt - Now, delete this file only. Startup ArmA then and play until the next crash. (Edit: By this I mean, you should have at least reached an stage, where ArmA has *successfully* loaded an mission;..and then crashes to desktop) Also: Please wait some 5 minutes after the crash, if the 'hanging' ArmA.exe process in taskmanager is shutting down *on its own* or you still have to kill it manually. After this, copy the file contents. The file will (should be) be created new. Can you copy&paste its contents? If it is more than say, 20 lines, do not post it here. Then just send it my way (e-mail-attachment; zipped) You should also post this file to BIS and point them to this thread. Thank you.
Bad Pilot 0 Posted March 19, 2007 In your situation, this is what I would do... #1 Don't give up hope! In Add/Remove Programs: - Uninstall openal Uninstall all audio software In Device Manager: - Uninstall soundcard drivers Delete the sound cards Shutdown Until the game is working, simplify the computer setup. Â So, I'd forget about the MIDI soundcard at this stage. Â Even if it's not a problem, Windows isn't perfect and might mess things up... Depending on which is the MIDI soundcard: - Open the case and remove the MIDI card or Disable the onboard sound in the BIOS Reboot Re-install audio for the single active card. Reinstall DirectX Run DXdiag and take off hardware audio acceleration. Reinstall openAL Start ArmA Disable ingame hardware acceleration and EAX Reduce ingame graphics to no more than 1024x786 or a similar widescreen if that's what you got and lower/disable all the game graphics settings. Play and pray! If it works, create a Restore Point After a day or two of it working, either install the MIDI card and test again for a couple of days OR play with dxdiag acceleration settings, and in-game settigns and test those for a couple of days. Â Use Restore Points.
Antba 0 Posted March 20, 2007 man, there is no ArmA directory here C:\Documents and Settings\Eduardo\Configurações locais\Application Data it´s not occult or something, the only directory there is Microsoft o.o(nothing on D: either) Mr Fenix, I think the steps you said could work, but I will wait for a while for the 1.06 patch, I play keyboard, I can´t remove the MIDI card, but I will do it if the 1.06 patch doesn´t come fast(or if he doesn´t solve my problems, NOOOOOO), I already saved these steps. Again, thank you guys.
desertfox 2 Posted March 20, 2007 I can only confirm I suspect an audio driver related problem as well. Try uninstalling and physically removing your midi card.
Antba 0 Posted April 1, 2007 problem solved, I installed windows vista ultimate with all new drivers, no problems now I´d like to thank you all guys that helped me obs: if you are going to install vista, it´s better for you to have a FUCKING GOOD machine
anoik 0 Posted April 1, 2007 I have the same problem, the game crash without error messages every time, i can't pass the intro (i can only see some seconds of it), for example, and if i am playing some mission it goes to windows soon, but i don't want to install Vista. sprayer_faust 0 Posted April 7, 2007 I had the same problem. ARMA crashed randomly (after about 5 min). Updating the video or audio drivers didn't work. I reduced the video settings, but still nothing. I thought it was my old LCD's fault, for it has only a VGA input but the graphic card has only a DVI output (using converter). Today I updated my BIOS and the game works flawless. Â (using Win XP)
