Journeyman 0 Posted March 12, 2007 I'd say increasing the priority of a game would generally not be a good idea since all it will do is give less processor time to all other applications running on the background. If you have some non-important programs running on the background that use up cpu time from the game then you would be better off dropping the priority from those programs instead (Or shut them down if possible). This may be true for single core procs. I'm using an Dual Core Cpu 1st cpu -> real time for Arma 2nd cpu -> os duty So this would be quite handy. Bye I have a dual core cpu and am wondering how I could make games work better on it. Are you saying that I could just set all OS apps to one of the cores and then run games on the other one??  ...Would this cause any probs with OS apps? ...Would it make any difference to my games esp. ArmA? Any experts out there?  I've never really understood this 2 core business! In Device manager it shows: Processors… ...Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.2GHz ...Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.2GHz Does that mean I have two 3.2 GHz processors or one dividied into two???
Phantom Mark 0 Posted March 12, 2007 Dude, ArmA runs like crap on your system because your card is 256MB. Plus you've got a P4, like me, which is a problem, even when running at 4GHz my ArmA still can clog up in certain areas.I need to get my hands on a Core 2/Core Quad. Then my 8800 will be unleashed, finally. Â Dont count on it mate..... Quad core and 8800GTX here and it runs like poo most of the time im afraid to say. kernriver 4 Posted March 12, 2007 To continue with what Red kite was talking about: how do you set one core to run ArmA, and the other to cope with OS? I have AMD x2 4600+ so if my ArmA experience would benefit from setting one core to run only ArmA, please explain how to do that. boecko

Not all processes will allow you to set affinity though but most will and ArmA will too just Alt/Tab out first. What I want to know is if it is going to make much difference to game performance and if there are any probs with doing so. I suppose I could just give it a go and find out! And anyone else who wants to as well so long as you report back here with your results! Set all possible O/S apps to one core and ArmA to another! Â
kernriver 4 Posted March 12, 2007 I found it, but thanks anyway Red kite. Also, if anyone is experiencing problems with their AMD x2 CPU, here is something that might help: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81429
dirtylarrygb 0 Posted March 13, 2007 Even with a 8800 GTX 768, textures set to HIGH not very High seems a sensible idea!
Monkwarrior 0 Posted March 13, 2007 This alt-tabbing will work of course, but it's not a workable solution. I am searching for a way to make sure my arma uses core 1 and the rest of my processes use core 2. This should not be done manually each time, but autmated. Anyone got a soultion for this ? Monk. Vantskruv 0 Posted March 14, 2007 Beside FRAPS, is there any way to get the fps in the game? Use Ati Tray Tools, http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/, look in Tools & Options->OnScreen Display But often you don't need to change any seetings because I think it's enabled by default. Edit: Also if you want to use the OmegaDrivers instead of the Catalyst drivers, Ati Tray Tools is included in these drivers.

ATT is also used in NGO driver set (imho beating Omegas) plus in ATT u can set OSD to show temperatures, used Video memory and Texture memory and System memory occupied by process (e.g. ArmA.exe) ... quite handy program
MamiyaOtaru 1 Posted March 15, 2007 lol am i the only person who didnt get this to work.. i mean whenever i click on the Shortcut to the .Bin file.. all i get is crummy notepad. That would be because it is a .bin.txt file. For whatever reason, by default windows hides file extensions. It is hiding the .txt, so all you see is .bin. Change settings to not hide them, then remove the .txt.
