deevius 0 Posted March 5, 2007 Anyone know why FRAPS won't take screenshots of ArmA properly? I've tried setting it to BMP, JPEG ect but every time it's just coming out with a blank screenshot, just a picture of a black box and some of them came out all messed up like this: at first some of the screenshots it took came out fine but it's doing this all the time i've tried messing with Windows Hardware Acceleration settings but no luck anyone have any ideas? Clavicula_nox4817 0 Posted March 6, 2007 No clue, it works fine for me, so I can't help you. Are you using free FRAPS, or registered?

Clavicula_nox4817 0 Posted March 6, 2007 Weird, I've had the black screen thing happen before in other games, but never in ArmA. What are your system specs? FRAPS settings?
-duke- 0 Posted March 6, 2007 registered.ive tried the free version aswell but same thing Send an e-mail to beepa support because their very responsive and helpful. Just a few questions though: - do you allow Fraps to run when Windows starts? - do your screenshot and ingame resolutions sync? - have you tried it with another game to see if the problem is Fraps or simply a config problem with ArmA? What kind of rig do you have: for example, multi core processors can record images/movies without resolution limitations unlike single core CPU's.
Sto 0 Posted March 6, 2007 Might be a problem with codecs that are installed on your PC, i had problems when i tryed to record video with fraps and also had the FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder installed which made the recordings awful. Maybe try uninstalling some codecs to see if that helps
Infam0us 10 Posted March 6, 2007 Ever though of scanning your graphics card for artifiacts? This tool works well. Also look into resolution issues and the like. Codec issues might not be the case but nevertheless I hope you get it sorted
M4XSs 0 Posted March 6, 2007 Usually such applications acquires a device context for the entire screen to take screenshot but I think the mechanism is different under directx. Once I recorded a vid for ofp using fraps it was 20 min or more in length and the vid size was over a gig!! So the app is not that bright anyhow. See if fraps compatible with your current system and check your vid card configurations that can be a factor and the game settings 2. Another thing to add once I used many kinds of apps to improve my gaming experience. They caused such weird effects, see if you running such apps in the background, see if the game installation is corrupt and there is no missing depends needed by the game or fraps. This means the higher the resolution, the larger the file. BTW, if you managed to actually record 20 minutes of ingame footage at around 1 GB then I'm impressed because 2 - 3 minutes represents close to 1 GB for me. Fraps is actually a great program as it is and if you have a registered version as I believe you already indicated, then you should have all you need to capture screenshots and record video. Fraps comes with it's own codec if I'm not mistaken so I can't see you requiring additional codecs to record with Fraps but I can see requiring additional codecs to compress Fraps files. As I stated before, much of what you'll get here is guess work so I'd strongly suggest contacting beepa support directly. They are very responsive and do all they can to help see you through your issues.

Hard to run it for a few minutes without a crash. In addition, the compression option was not even implemented, is it available now anyhow? Again I think his problem is definitely related to the things I listed above.

As for compression, only screenshots are compressed in whatever manner you choose, raw video is always uncompressed.
