Does not read the original CD

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I have a real strange problem. I purchased in January AA in a media store in a big warehouse in Germany. I installed the game and I was able to play it. Next day my DVD drive did not reveal the CD. It gives me an error message to insert the original Cd into the drive even it was already in there. So I disinstalled and reinstalled the game and I could play it. Next day the same drill. Does not read the original disk which bugs me quite heavily. Is there anybody who could give me some tips what to do. Since I'm living in Italy there's no way to go back to the store and change the CD.

Glad for any suggestion.

Hello nettrucker. smile_o.gif

Is it an generic Windows error message, or is it an

'specific' Securom (Copy protection) error message?

(If the later is the case, you get an numbered code;..please post this code here)

Can you please post the exact error message here?

-

How long does your DVD-drive read the DVD, before the error message pops up?

More than 10 seconds?

Do you have another DVD-drive around just for testing? (friends)

-

One more try: Open your Explorer and point to your DVD-drive with the Arma DVD already inserted.

This should spin the drive up. While it is already beeing read, doubleclick ArmA-icon;...does this help?

Hello troop

Thanks for your reply.

I guess it has something to do with SecuRom. This is the message which is visualized on screen:

Vedi http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=nodisc&l=it per ulteriori dettagli.

The Dvd drive takes more than 10 sec. to read. When I'm clicking on the DVD drive shortcut icon on my desktop and choose explore, no contents are visualized.

I tried to use the one of my old computer and all contents can be seen there, but the system specs are not sufficient to run AA on my old computer.

I haven't seeen any numbered code so far or maybe I missed something.

Also double clicking does not change anything. The DVD drive do not see disc contents, only after reinstalling the game. See that lots of people have problems running AA once installed and that's pretty bad.

Cheers

Aha.

Ok, I cannot read italian, maybe another Italian ArmA player,

who reads this, can make something out of this message?

But;..if the DVD-drive from your former PC can read the

DVD-contents, while your newer drive has problems,

it is either an operating system problem or the drive fails

to read specific media. I have got an similar configuration

here, where one drive reads everything ok, but the other,

different brand does not display contents. (and as an result,

cannot start certain games, because the contents are not read)

-

2 things to try now.

Can you just swap those drives for an test?

If this is successful and you can start ArmA every time you

try then, you probably either need to keep your older

DVD-drive in your newer PC, or shop for an different brand

of DVD-drive to avoid future, similar read-problems.

(Edit: I just want to clarify;..you only should consider

shopping for an new drive, if *other* games/media are also

not read correctly. )

-

Is your Operating system up to date? (If XP, SP2 + all patches)

Your chipset drivers for mainboard? (very important)

-

If you run Vista already, then sorry, no ideas there.

Hi troop

thanks for your suggestions. Windows XP is up to date. I might have to check chipset settings.

The messagge in Italian just tells you to click on the link to get some more details. Error reads no disc.

Every other media CD is read by the DVD drive that's why it's so strange that only with the AA CD no contents are displayed. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway thanks for all your suggestions.

Cheers

Quote[/b] ]Please consult the following steps to generate this analysis file.

We developed this easy-to-use and effective error analysis tool to retrieve information necessary to locate the problem. The information contained in the analysis file is compressed and encrypted.

1. Make sure the original disc (play or launch disc) is in a local CD or DVD-ROM drive.

2. Please reboot your computer and do not start any additional applications.

3. "Right-click" (click the right button of your mouse) on the desktop shortcut or actual executable.

4. A dialog menu will appear. Choose "Launch Analysis" from the menu choices.

5. After selecting "Launch Analysis," a disclaimer window will appear.

6. To proceed, please click onto the "Yes" button.

The program will now generate an "AnalysisLog.sr0" file within the root of your C:\ directory.

Please "zip" (archive) this file (to avoid email corruption) and send it to our official email address support@securom.com together with a description of your problem (e.g. screenshots, further details).
