Mods and Online play

Recommended Posts

Sorry as I am rather new to this game.

I realise that mods can not be compatible with some online stuff but how does it effect you if you have a mod loaded and you want to play online?

Do you have to unload the mods or does the PC just not register them if the other players do not have them?

Cheers!

The standard way to run a MOD for BIS games is to create a shortcut which specifically loads that mod

To try and use a mod on a server that isn't supporting it will cause problems, it can cause ctd's and stability problems both on your client, other clients and the server itself. So please dont do it

Simply create a shortcut for each mod you intend to play with and start up that particular mod when you want to play on a server that is currently running that mod

Depends if you've got edited versions of any existing game content. For example, if the .pbo file for....oh I dunno....an M4 differs from the standard .pbo being used on the server then you won't be able to join.

If, however, you merely have additional content and have not modified the existing game content then it'll work just fine.

Pardon my ignorance but how does one do that?

I assumed that mods are loaded into add-ons folder and run from there? Do you have to tick them off or something to play them within the game?

Most major mods come with their own folder ie. @WGL, which is placed in your general Flashpoint directory. To activate this mod, you would right-click on OFP shortcut, click properties, and add " -mod=@WGL", after the running statment in your 'target' line. Be careful not to erase whats already there and spacing IS important.

What this does is keep your original OFP folder clean for use with on-line play.

Fantastic!

Thanks very much for the feedback! Must admit the people on this forum have been very helpful and forthcoming.

Thanks again!
