I am a n00b to this game

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just purchased the game yesterday and so far (albeit just had a quick go at one mission) it seems to have a lot of potential.

I did play OFP many years ago albeit briefly as it my cousins copy but enjoyed the virtual world. Having been in the British Armed Forces myself this game is right up my street!

I am however getting to grips with some parts of the game. One of which is that which attracted me some of the fabulous screenshots. I know how to take basic print screen shots but a lot of the images shown show external views I seem to have trouble getting. If I go external on my character my view is somewhat restricted by his head movements. How on earth did they get those amazing external shots as they don't seemed to be linked to third party view (in terms of an individual character).

Lastly is there any topic (I have had trouble finding) where it explains how to install mods?

Many thanks for your time as I realise it's a no brainer when you have someone like me scratching their head so I appreciate your time!

In addition, most carefully prepared addon sets will include

detailed installation information in a readme. Generally, those

that don't aren't worth installing anyway.

Thanks for the advice. Any reccomendations on add-ons that are a 'must have'?

Most completed addons are posted in: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....SF;f=70

Find one you like, read a few replied about them and download it if you want it wink_o.gif

The tools havent been released yet so some mods are being held up until BIS release the tools wink_o.gif But theres a lot of mods already being released without the tools biggrin_o.gif

sorry to hijack this thread, but i'm also wondering about that screenshot taking thingy. i followed the above instructions, and i can get the camera to work. i can control it, no problem.

but it seems to be really complicated to take good pictures. let's say i want to photograph a flying Cobra gunship;

i place the Cobra, play as gunner, set some waypoints and activate the camera as described. fine, but the chopper takes off while the camera gets left behind. if i wanted to photograph it while it's moving, i kinda have to race after the chopper with the camera, and that can't be right.

so, in layman's terms, how do i go about it efficiently?

You can set the time down...like <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">setacctime 0.5

,so the game runs at half speed.

Btw to make good looking pics is not as easy as it looks, means u should start making pics from "non movement situations".

thank you.

i was just wondering if there was no way to kinda tie the camera to a unit so that the camera would automatically follow that unit.

Looking at one of the chaps who makes those amazing screenshots (sorry forget his name). All the actors are going through some sort of action sequence or are sat down etc.

How does one get the AI to do these actions as once you come out of camera mode you cannot just jump back into it again. Is it part of a scripted action?

Thanks again.

yes, you have to tell the soldiers what to do before previewing the map. you kinda have to make a mini mission first, then preview the map and have it executed by the AI. with the camera, you can watch them doing that.

for editing, follow this link: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Editing

it's pretty easy to make basic missions/settings, like having soldiers walk around or sit down/salute.
