sisco55 0 Posted February 19, 2007 Where do I find dem files? Also what program do I need to edit them?
fasad 1 Posted February 19, 2007 Many countries have a government body which will freely give away low resolution data, such as the USGS. You will have to pay for high resolution data (~10m). I have used two programs to get the data into Visitor - Wilbur and bmp2ascii2ase. I'm sure there is a more efficient way.

sisco55 0 Posted February 23, 2007 Does anyone know how I can get a dem file of a specific mountain? Specifically this one: http://www.summitpost.org/mountai....apter_3
smiley nick 51 Posted February 23, 2007 You would first need to get a dem of the area. www.mapmart.com Then you would have to edit the dem in wilbur , if you where only after the mountain. Make sure your dem is a factor of "two" 256x256, 512x512 ect Then save it as a "lon, lat" in wilbur. Open WRP Tool, new, enter your island size. File, new, "import wilbur", load the lonlat.txt document And hey presto Nick
sisco55 0 Posted February 24, 2007 Hmmm, it saves it as lots of little ddf files.
Planck 1 Posted February 24, 2007 No no, this is in the United States, you can get a 30 metre DEM for nothing. http://data.geocomm.com/catalog/US/61086/sublist.html Planck
sisco55 0 Posted February 24, 2007 still saves it as lots of little ddf files.
Planck 1 Posted February 24, 2007 No it doesn't. I don't live in the US so I have no idea of the exact location of this mountain......tell me which county and I will try and extract the dem for you. Planck

garryslv 0 Posted June 21, 2007 Excuse my nwebie-ness but whats the diff between 30 to 90 DEM
Overlord 0 Posted November 16, 2007 Maybe a little late for a reply but the diff between 30m and 90m dem data is the distance between each "height-measure" point. I hope someone watch this topic, I'm struggling myself (
