it might be related to the winmm.dll file, I had 1.02 installed got given 1.04 today (brothers are nice sometimes) uninstalled 1.02 removed all the files from that install, installed 1.04 started it and it crashes with the microsoft run error telling me that the problem is arma.exe and winmm.dll.

going to try re-installing 1.02 again to see if I get it back working again.

bugger it looks like the uninstall of 1.02 has buggered things up, I have tried to re-install 1.02 and I get the same problem  mad_o.gif

Oh well...... yet another re-install of XP on the cards. banghead.gif

**edit**

Got to love system restore when it works right smile_o.gif

OK I got 1.02 back working OK, tried uninstalling 1.02 again then reinstalling 1.04, it would seem that there is a problem with the 1.04 I have as it still comes up with the winmm.dll error, I'm going to see if I get the same error with a clean drive too......I'll keep you updated smile_o.gif

2.Install ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows....hql.exe

- Support for nForce, nForce2, nForce3, and nForce4 including dual-processor systems

3.http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=46 no problem with install....

Okay that might indeed have been the problem.

Could the ones who still get the winmm.dll error on startup try disabling their onboard sound-chips in the BIOS ? Only if you have a mainboard with onboard sound and an additional soundcard of course.

@ Malden, you can check here for drivers for the VIA KV2 k8t880

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2

@ kaja: Those are nForce2 drivers. And they are for Windows XP. You need Vista drivers for the chipset you have got. What mainboard have you got ?

I am pretty sure this is a driver problem here, somehow connected to mainboard components. I had exactly the same problem when I bought Arma and fixed it by installing new chipset drivers.

Do you have 2 Graphics cards in your system - maybe one on the Motherboard? Have you tried disabling the OnBoard graphics in the BIOS?

Also disable any LPT, COM and Firewire ports you arent using in the BIOS (frees some system resources) and anything else you find you dont need.

Onboard sound as well as your soundcard? Disable it in the BIOS.

Exactly @ above poster.

=> All people with nForce chipsets who have an onboard sound chip + additional PCI sound card installed, or an onboard gfx chip, try disabling these via the BIOS.

=> Additionally, don't get the nForce drivers from the Asus website, but from Nvidia.com.

=> If you have unusual controllers connected to one of your USB ports, unplug them. ( One guy could not launch the game because he had some xbox controller or something like that hooked up )

Also, you can look up what chipset you have in your mainboard manual, or, if you don't have a manual, by entering your mainboard name into Google. It's hard for me to keep up looking up peoples hardware specs. ^.^
