Horrible Graphic Problems, HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi ive just got the UK release of Arma and im getting these weird graphical issues. I have the latest ati drivers, turned everything on full/ lowest and normal graphical settings and i still get it. Ive followed Jack-UK's guide for tips and tricks, and tried forcing 24bit Z buffering aswell as triple buffering but nothing seems to work. Ive even tried overclocking my gfx card but no use. What does seem to work (if onoly for a short while, maybe 10 mins) is if I alt tab to my desktop and come back in i dont experience it for a short while. Any ideas on how to fix this will be most appreciated.

Im running a P4 2.8 Ghz with 1024Mb of RAM with a radeon 9800

Here is a link to what happens:

Many thanks

To rule out GPU overheating, and overclocking problems, play other games.

Does this happen to ARMA only? Does it happen to other games also?

If its ARMA related only, we can rule out overheating.

yes this only happens in ArmA, every other game ive played, Half life 2, company of heroes, medieval 2 etc works fine

Well its definately your graphic card, but on the box, it says it supports it so....

Try updating driver, update to latest direct x, see if that helps. If not just wait for a patch, there's not much you can do.

thats the thing tho, im running the latest version of both my ati drivers and directx. Gonna try using some older catalyst drivres see if that works, other than that, ill just have to get used to alt tabing every 10 mins to fix it sad_o.gif

Cheers Luciano

Well, if it makes you feel better, there are more people with this problem and they have to alt/tab often.

I remember reading in the forums about it. Hope a fix comes soon.

Tried going back to catalyst 5.8 as I heard it might work for some people, but am getting this error when i try to run Arma

"Display adapter does not support format DS2428 for X8R8G8B8"

I guess im gonna try the omega and DNA drivers in a last ditch attempt..

I suffer from the exact same problem. I don’t matter if I max the game out or run on minimum. The gliching disappears for a while if I Alt + Tab when it appears. It seems the gliching reappears if I change between extern and intern view in any land based vehicle (thou have only tried flying one chopper so not to sure..) or if I change between “command view†and normal view.

P4 3.2ghz

2gb ram

X850XTP 256mb

Win XP Pro SP2

DX9.1

Catalyst drivers: First I ran the game with 6.12 then I updated them to 7.1, no diffrense what so ever.

I have never experienced something like this before in any played game.

Thanks for any help! confused_o.gif

for ATI users, if the standard ATI drivers didnt work

try Omega drivers

it fixed lots of gaming problems and even perforemce boost for some other games, i still didnt test the latest built(based on 7.1) but this driver works on my system

I can only confirm that. At least ati users who got an older version (shader 2 model like 9800series to x800, x850) can benefit a lot from that drivers. I can now use the settings in my signature and dont get a frame drop while zooming or in ironsight and foliage is in front of me. All ati-drivers gave me a massive dropdown in frames in that situations.

Give it a try.

Cya on the fields!

Its nothing to do with age of the card, I have an x1900xtx and get similar issues, also using the latest Omega drivers.. even thinking of getting an 8800gts to get rid of the problem.

Well if its overheating then your card has some time to cool down again (Which happens quite fast). And such graphical errors arent the games problem, but the cards problems, ive only seen this happen when i overclocked my card too much .. tounge2.gif

I have not over clocked my card at all. I doubt that cards from the 9800, x800, x850 and x1900series all would suffer from insufficient heat sinkers. Further more I have played HL2 Company of Heroes, Oblivion, Hitman blood money, Call of Duty 2, Supreme Commander and Rainbow Six Vegas all on very high settings and never experienced any problems (more then fps drops..)

Right, ive tried both the omega and DNA drivers and they both stop the horrible graphical issues. But now i am experienceing LOD issues within the game, now sometimes the LOD of people, cars etc seems to be as if it was 1000m away when really im up close...also i now seem to be getting black screens where the music plays but nothing else.. how exactly do i change the allocated memory for Arma? cheers

I just remembered! I had something like this on Fable Lost Chapters. All the shadows in the game looked really f’cked up just after that I had installed new ATI Catalyst drivers. Also the most usual pattern for the gliching in ArmA is “through†the shadows. Seems to be less gliching if i turn them off, thou not 100% sure. Driver bug? huh.gif

I had shadows disabled when i took this screenshot.

I had this glitch in the demo version also but the latest demo patch seemed to not fix it but it didn't happen as often. I have Quad SLI Nvidia 7950gtx and i've got the latest driver. When this happens ingame i can go into the options and change the resolution and it fixes it, but it returns again after a few minutes. ArmA is the only game i get this glitch with just like the original poster. It seems to be a graphics card glitch, but how can it only occur with ArmA.

biggrin_o.gif Sorry to say this, but i am actually glad to hear NVIDIA users have the same problem. So then it isn't a driver based problem? huh.gif

Hi guys I just brought armed assault today and intially had major problems with my game too which always ended in a crash to

desktop but I have seemed to solved my problem. When I first ran the game I was having all sorts of weird graphical issues like soldiers I could count the polygons on and random messed up textures. I was trying to do the first mission of the campaign and it always crashed just as the action started. Anyway this problem went away after I manually set my resolution and refresh rate in the Arma.cfg file. I also set my shaders to low so not sure exactly what stopped the problems. When I next started the game and noticed that I could no longer set my texture detail above medium which is weird but it now runs flawlessly.

My specs:

Athlon xp 64 3400

ATI radeon 850xtpe

2.5GB DDR 400 RAM

Audigy 2

Just thought I would post this incase it helps anyone. smile_o.gif
