Timereaver 0 Posted December 31, 2001 Hi there - I had the same problem and solved it by disabling DMA for the CD Drive and Hard Drive. Applied the patches, and then re-enabled DMA (you'll have to reboot a couple of times). Good luck, Timereaver

pine_tar 0 Posted January 9, 2002 On my pc, I disabled the DMA on the CD-ROM drive, but was not given the option to do so for the hard drive (grayed out in device manager properties). After doing so, I tried to re-execute the upgrade.... no luck. Does anyone else have possible solutions? Also, does it matter that I am trying to apply the ultimate upgrade 3 instead of just trying to load the 1.3 patch?
ALDEGA 0 Posted January 11, 2002 "and XP now (which won't let you change the settings)" In Windows XP you have to go to "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and then change the settings of either the primary ide channel or the secondary one. (depending on which channel your cdrom device is connected) Once there you can choose "pio mode only" and "dma if available". If you don't want DMA, just select pio mode only. Eh voila (if you have a scsi device, then it's a bit different ofcourse )
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted January 11, 2002 we have made a fix for the last patch 1.30 to 1.40 basically we grabbed all the files that were updated and added them in to a zip (found in my dload siggy below) if you find a list of files that were all updated in each patch have a friend copy them to you or copy the whole 1.4 directory over, this will only work if you have installed the orginal CD and still have it the Registry will contain your CD key so this is just barly legal as stated by BIS, but does not bother them as long as you do own the CD and have it if you dont, you'll eventually get FADE and wont beable to aim or play on the net
