tobymccall 0 Posted January 31, 2002 Here's my problem lock up happens during single play and multiplayer games. i can enter a game, but as soon as i interact with something or after a few moments the computer will lock and start to stutter, i.e. repeat the last sound, and i can't use ctrl alt delete or alt tab to exit. I have uninstalled, deleted all folders excluding add-ons, missions and mpmissions, reinstalled, applied each patch separately and restarted after each patch, and still this problem. i even get this "lock up" on earlier versions of the patch. last night i tried to play on gamespy and it locked up everytime. so i tried to uninstall and reinstall again and just play each patch to see if it was the 1.42 patch that was causing the problem. that's when i got the new problem, the game will load all the way to the end and then tell me that a bad key was entered at setup! i know that the key was entered in correctly cause i tried the setup again and typed it slowly, still no luck. so now not only do i have a hosed ofp game, but i don't have a game at all!! I wonder if someone has entered my key code and now my game has degraded. sys info amd 1.4 thunderbird asus a7a board hercules 3d prophet 4500 64mb w/current drivers soundblaster live value w/current drivers 512 mb ddr ram win 2k game runs on separate partition (g:) with 8 gb of space and 1gb paging file. PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT!!! thanks
theavonlady 2 Posted January 31, 2002 I just emailed this response to you: Sounds serious. Is that a VIA chipset mobo you have? Is your system's ASPI layer up to date? How about the BIOS? It could really be anything. Sometimes the latest driver versions aren't best and it's worth going back a version or two. You'll have to investigate that elsewhere. Running DX 8.1? Does DXdiag pass all the tests? Have you run the OFP preferences program after reinstalling. You've got lots of memory on your system. Are the memory chips all the same speed, different manufacturer, etc.? Have you gone through all The FAQ articles mentioning "freeze" or "ctd"? These are the things that go through my head when I hear your problem. Keep us posted.

Most probable reason for this can be disk transfer error or some bad memory chip.
tobymccall 0 Posted February 1, 2002 suma you are right on target but we still have a problem i checked the registry and there where multiple entries of ofp. i already unistalled the game so i deleted any registry keys i found through search. i then installed the game again. same problem in default version and on single player mission bomer man. just to test the key code theory, i bought another copy of opf. so i unistalled the old copy, deleted all entries in the registry and installed the new copy. you guessed it, same problem. so i downloaded the newst directx 8.1. then i tested all dx devices and got no problems. still the same lock up during gameplay. the game plays fine, looks fine, sounds fine, for a while, then locks and continues to repeat the last sound like a stutter. i can't get out unless i reboot. i have latest drivers for video, and sound. everything is up to date. this is killing me. i have tried everything i can think of. i played this game for months with no problem, now this. i'm grasping at straws here. i love this game and really want to play again. pls Help bro. suma 8 Posted February 1, 2002 Ok, let us continue with troubleshooting. Did you check "Troubleshooting FAQ" topics on crashing and freezing? Can you identify the chipset you have? If you have VIA chipset, there are several steps that can make VIA based system more stable, as described in Troubleshooting FAQ.
tobymccall 0 Posted February 4, 2002 hi suma, thanks for the time. i have an alimagik chipset on a asus a7a board i've looked for updates and there aren't any. recent changes: i got crazy and wipped my computer, installed xp pro, dwloaded all the new xp drivers for video and sound (xp found the rest) and reloaded ofp. same problem. very random though. i've dropped frame rate and visual quality all the way to their lowest and still the same results. today i bought medal of honor. same thing. random hangs. sometime i can get though a mission no problem. my sound card and video share the same irq (11). i changed the pci slot for my sound card in bios from auto to 7, an open irq, and they both changed to 7. again, as i play, i can see it get a bit choppy, then it hangs and repeats the sound playing at moment of the hang. i can only reboot. this is on the original version and all patches. last night i got it to play 3 games with no problem. today it's doing it again.im at my wits end here. i know this game works, i've played it before. and i have a system that can handle these games. please help. -tob
theavonlady 2 Posted February 4, 2002 Have you tried spending a few bucks for new good quality disk and CD cables? It's helped others a certain percentage of the time. Just shooting from the hip.
Placebo 29 Posted February 4, 2002 I have a similar config to you, Asus A7A266 mobo, Hercules 3d prophet 64mb. When you say there are no updates how recently are you talking? I know there's an AGP driver up to about version 1.90 or something....
ALDEGA 0 Posted April 20, 2002 "my sound card and video share the same irq (11)". They really shouldn't be using the same IRQ. Does winxp currently "see" your computer as an "ACPI computer" or "standard computer"?
Placebo 29 Posted April 20, 2002 Always nice to see people helping each other but seeing as he hasn't posted in nearly 3 months I would hazard a guess that he either got the problem sorted or gave up
ALDEGA 0 Posted April 20, 2002 I was running a search on the board and spotted this thread. Just couldn't resist
Syphon~WoP~ 0 Posted April 21, 2002 I have the same graphics card as yours and the latest drivers aren't really good in XP, try the 9015 instead
Hellfire12 0 Posted June 14, 2002 Oh man I thought I was about to get an answer to my problem as it is same as posters.
