WWII Mods

Recommended Posts

Vote if you would like to see a possible Western Front only total conversion for Armed Assault. Further ideas will be discussed, but for now, lets just see who thinks this idea is decent.

Personally I would like to see a World War 2 mod which covers all theatres.

The reason I was this is so I dont need to d/l 15 german infantry addons so I can play the western front, the eastern front and the north african campaign. Also so that the German Troops look the same. Same thing for the other countries involved in the war.

I would like to just see one World War 2 mod instead of several small ones with several working on the same theatre campagin etc. In my opinion by combining talents and knowledge it will benifit not only the player but also the mod maker becuase he/she will have to do less work.

I think it's rather hard to vote with any real conviction

without some more [even rough] details of what you

intend. For example, by "Western Front" do you mean the

whole shebang from Sept 1939 through to May1945? All

countries? All campaigns? All armies?

In any case I think the vote is rather superfluous since

many people are interested in WW2 games and any mod

team working on that would be onto a winner (and I have

a "Commando raid" addon set planned myself, so I'll need

some decent Jerry addons!  wink_o.gif  )

By Western front I intend to replicate American vs. German battles. The battles will try to be historically accurate by weapon loadouts, uniforms, and vehicles of the time. All the major battles of course, as well, as smaller ones.

Thanks for the clarification. Well I'm not personally interested

in an "Americans only" Western Front, although I suppose a

great majority of participants on this forum would be.

"Wa_Va_voom" I think has an interesting idea (although I

doubt that'd work in reality).

Edit: I'd also say that if you are really interested in this

particular period and theatre (and army) then just go for it!

What would you really need a poll for anyway?

I would like it, especially if we could get away from the staples like US army airborne, and focus on the other guys who played important parts too, like the British, Polish, Canadians, Aussies, etc. These guys all deserve to have something commemorate them as well, and I think they get forgotten too often.

Hmmm I think it would (look at WW2EC in OFP) work at worst it would be rather easy to set up a co-operation on World War 2 addon makers and mods which are either

1) Self governing and negotiate standards such as armour values and sharing of addons between themselves or

2) A parent body which over looks all mods which have agreed to co-operate to make sure co-operability is used to the most maximum of their content.

For example this a parent body was set up and under this mod there are 4 "mod" projects going such as

1) Western Front pre-Normandy,

2) Western front post normandy,

3) Eatern front and

4) Pacific theatre

These guys can share models, sounds, textures and most importantly configs and then one day a bunch of guys come up and say "hey I want to start an African Campaign" you can look at the previous mods and canibalise previous made addons and just do a re-texture job saving alot of work and most importantly saving addons space and valuble time which can be used on other projects.

A consortium standardising such things would be great.

Are there already plans afoot to do such a thing for ArmA?

ww2 mods bring a whole new dimension for game play.....

No offence, but the WWII has been played out to the bone.I cringe when I hear WWII games or addons.

Good to see you doing something, more than I can say.

Yes, it has been overdone. But the good part, is that a majority of people love it! It never gets old, honestly. Other games are very linear (Call of Duty, Red Orchestra, Brothers in Arms). Now, we can have huge landscape better representing the atmosphere and tactics, actually, it changes the way the game is played, entirely.

Agreed, there are several aspects of WW2 that have been

little covered in this format too. Looking forward to see what

Sentralia comes up with.

Each to his own. I think Sentralia's last post sums up the

advantage of ArmA for doing WW2 though. I also think the

ArmA engine suits itself very well to 1940s-era warfare

without too much modification. I can't wait get going on

some WW2 stuff for my own amusement.
