Nixer6 0 Posted October 20, 2006 Somehow I snoozed thru this little tidbit at OFPEC. The test PC is a P4 2.4 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, GeForce 6600 GT. On this machine, the graphics can never - not even with lower settings - be drawn normally. This means that the game is either jerky or the objects aren’t drawn at normal quality. The models become rough and the textures come out slubbered. I pause a little there – my HD is working non-stop – only then more detailed models and textures are drawn. OFPEC Article On a psitive note, I'm not sweating the release date as much now. I gotta save some more loot for my next PC. I'm gonna get: Fast Dual Core CPU 2 GB fast RAM MINIMUM 512 MB Vid Card The price we pay for a beautiful game, lots of units and long view distances. I'm not complaining here, just making observations.
KaiserPanda 0 Posted October 20, 2006 6600GT is an old card at this point, that sounds like the weakpoint. Crappiest DX9 card you can get. I'm not even sure if it has full, true DX9 support or is just DX9 "compatable." A lot of the cool stuff ArmA does with that material system will probably be using memory on the GPU. Also, he doesn't specify if it's a PCIx16 or AGP card. If it's AGP - well... duh.
Commando84 0 Posted October 20, 2006 is there really such a big difference between pci card and agp?
mr burns 132 Posted October 20, 2006 is there really such a big difference between pci card and agp? imho NO! Not today and probably not even the next year. Talked to a friend who has PCI-E hardware and we came to the conclusion that the only bottleneck that holds my AGP 7800GS back "would" be the CPU, but not yet. The whole PCI-E mania seems like another marketing plan to make people spend insane ammounts of cash on new hardware.

Also, the AGP version performs identically to the PCIx version.
Placebo 29 Posted October 20, 2006 There really seems no point discussing the performance of a WIP press version. The reason professional press get press versions is because they tend to have top of the line PC's so they can test un-optimised preview code in the correct context, fans/fansites generally can not. When the demo comes out then by all means discuss performance as the discussion will then be valid and of interest.
