corn 0 Posted September 27, 2006 I had this idea of creating supporting roles ie: Transport pilot, fuel truck driver, etc... I thought of this because sometimes i am not in the mood of killing things .I usualy play some sort of civilian roles. In the multiplayer map (i think its the one with the HUGE war going on forrever thing) would it not be usefull to have people fly around dropping off tanks for you and it would be fun to shoot down some c-130s if there are gouing to be interceptor planes. Rescue teams if some one ejects behind the lines during a recon mission to look at other troop movement and weaknesses of fortified places etc.... I know this sounds more like a movie but it would be tons of fun . P.S. whats up with these dancing bananas??? i have seen these in so many fourums
messiahua 0 Posted September 27, 2006 I think, that this is already possible in OPF. Just do, what you want to do and that's all. It would be proper to extend medic role or some kind of ammo bearers, also mortar or artillery teams...
wamingo 1 Posted September 27, 2006 It is already possible to do most of these things like being a transport pilot, driving a fuel truck and such. The problem is not many missions takes fully advantage of these positions. You're generally better off commanding a pile of tanks or somehow otherwise attacking/defending with whatever available. Non-combat players are often somewhat wasted, especially in MP. But, for MP at least, we may see quite a few CTI spinoffs, especially now that JIP is in. And they may be a lot less revolved around destroying the enemy base or taking towns, and more objective based instead. Support this area, transport troops to that area. Maybe have Hotzones, periodical areas of interest that needs support one way or another. If you drop the "everyone can build units" concept from CTI somewhat, and limit the amount of vehicles, then support roles can be made more powerful. Having "forever wars" generally opens up more for non-combat gameplay.
TrevorOfCrete 0 Posted September 27, 2006 well in previews they have talked about supplys and reinforcments in CTI. probably be AI controlled. Still, theres nothing stopping you hopping into a chopper filled with guns and taking them to the frontline. Its more up to the individual, many people would get bored of 'logistical duty'. Call911-AGE- 0 Posted September 27, 2006 I think it's gonna be a necessity givin the map size, were gonna have to have soe kind of supply convoy following ground units like they do for real, an then set up rear area rearm/refuel points, with medical support also. TrevorOfCrete 0 Posted September 27, 2006 as i said above yeh i agree. the preview, i really cant remember whih one it was, said that in CTI you would have to capture a town, and then hold it while supplys/reinforcements come to you. only when they have arrived can you get new guns etc.. in that town all the time (ie. call it a base)
corn 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Those were some good replys this leads to that the this game is a war simulator this alows a real use of spetsnatz and guerilla warefare and others. Imagine going behind the lines and setting up mines and get out your rpg to blow up the convoy to a hotzone in a big town . Who will win the people with bearly few clips or a well supplyed army? And stealth attacker planes will give the airforce a new meaning (Theyre duty is do destroy the enemys ability to wage a war)... How about destroying they're trucks and other stokpiles... You can only carry so much and jeeps dont carry that much eitherbut for that to work there will be AI driven transport boats and planes at a certain shedual instead of 30 second spawning(makes it very realistic but hard). This would be more adrinaling rush, strategy, more roles and actualy have a place to retreat if you need to (these places will be a hughe hotzone of everyone destroying each others supply... imagine the defencefe(nice for attilery(cheap) but snipers and an actual use for tactical bomber(not to destroy 1 or 2 tanks)?!?!?). Unlike shooting infinite bullets and run around like rambo all day?!?!
PainDealer 0 Posted September 28, 2006 some tweaks to the good old RTCW/ET roles system and it'd be very suitable for OFP/ArmA
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted September 28, 2006 IMO this is the responsability of mission makers, since the vehicles are already provided and there's nothing else (engine-wise) that you really need to pull it off. It would be fun to have more logistics missions though, especially in the larger MP missions like CTI while the rest of the armies are fighting.
Call911-AGE- 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Look at the roles of some of the Single Player missions in OFP, 1) Convoy escort air an ground, 2) Chinook transporting troops to forward areas, 3) Air attack- on convoy,4) Convoy escort. Just a few I've played -AA units moving with Convoys an Manuver units, security forces for convoys air an ground. Theres gonna be so much more then just getting units to the front lines an fighting to take the next city or town. If not the ladder is probably going to done to your side. Which would be sweet an hav'nt seen that there gonna be in Armed Assult is a cpl Squadrons of A-10's for convoy elimination or base raids with.
icebreakr 3159 Posted September 28, 2006 With join-in-progress feature, a lot of new stuff will be possible. Our team will try to host a mission on dedicated every week that will be somewhat special. For the visitors and for our team members. For example: "offensive" players will have a recon mission and they'll have to reach different points to get hints on what to do next. Meanwhile other team will have a totally different role, like getting fuel truck to bradley, setting patrols to secure the position and moving it to a designated goal point. Next week mission could be a test for "recruits" to keep guard of an ammo depot. Joining players will be set-up (for example one higher ranking team "actor" will get a civy car and try to blow it up at the depot ramp. Other players in attack will be random guys joining... if ammo depot is safe in 1-hour time, mission ends and debrief follows lead by alpha team observers :] We'll recruit new members like in that screenshot where 3 soldiers have 2 civies in the back alley with pickup trucks. We'll load them up, drive them somewhere where they'll have to do series of tasks in order to become accepted, maybe they'll not even get a real rifle but "wooden rifle" modded to arma Ahh... dreams but... they may come true very soon
corn 0 Posted September 29, 2006 nice idea; this would seperate the rambos from the real soliders and provide a nice practice for newpeople.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted September 29, 2006 So now that it's been concluded that this has no relation to ArmA, and is totally mission related, is there really any point to this thread?
