dinger 1 Posted August 30, 2006 Tom's Hardware had two articles today. One on how some games set up to be addictive (think MMORPG), and one on how drugs and LAN parties mix. The reporter (Aaron McKenna) goes to one such party: From the Article: Quote[/b] ] Nobody was studying anything of any major consequence, I noted, but there was plenty of Ritalin. "So why use them here?""Well obviously nobody is gonna be studying in here," my host said with a clipped laugh. "It improves your game, and lets you go on for longer. The concentration is a great help, but I personally think it's the patience that's the best. Counter-strike is your typical LAN game - it's a bit twitchy, and the rounds are over comparatively quickly, but stick around a while and we'll start playing games that need some real patience. Capture the Island on Operation Flashpoint is a favorite." Indeed, I knew it well. Operation Flashpoint is one of the most realistic and ambitious soldier simulations money can buy on the commercial market. Capture the Island is a form of multiplayer that mixes simple base building with strategy, the soldier simulation and, of course, the task of capturing an island town by town. A single game, with enough players, can last for hours. The nature of the soldier sim requires patience, just as in real life, in every move you make. Using something like Ritalin or Adderall makes a lot of sense under these conditions. Just a warning -- there's plenty of colorful language and disturbing imagery in that article. Nathan Bedford Forrest 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Very interesting article that. I wonder if Mr. Sextacy was with a man or a woman. Or some sort of animal. I didn't pick it up in the article :P
deanosbeano 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Lmfao brilliant find there Although for a long term ofp player it is quite simple to spot why they have this need for ritalin and just as easy to see how they could do away with the need for it. solution = "DONT PLAY COUNTERSTRIKE FIRST OR INDEED AT ALL"

Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted September 3, 2006 Just a warning -- there's plenty of colorful language and disturbing imagery in that article. Dirstubing images, this one?: Hehe I just dont get it. How come every time I read an article like this, you get the assumption that it is a very very common problem and that nearly any gamer is either highly addicted to games, they kill people in their free time, or they a drug addicts. What these articles all have in common, is the lack of real comparable numbers that can go with their 'big words'. Any dead scientist would turn himself over in his/her grave after reading a piece of **** like this. No nothing to back up any of their arguments, except the very few incredible simple and obvious ones, that they always present to make the less-intelligent readers 'back on track', and makes them believe the entire article. The articles always float in the middle of truth, manipulations and direct lies. The people that DO take drugs while playing games - I bet they didn't start taking them in front of the screen in the first place. But what can we do to help it?
