[aps]gnat 28 Posted July 23, 2006 Been playing with docks and ; <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">setacctime 500 on a Default world (ie default Long. and Lat. etc) to find the following; BIS look to have fairly accurately modelled tide changes (ie timing and amplitude), while this is not new news, finding the best times for Island (Map) making/testing (ie set height of docks and tidal flats etc) and mission planning (ie when can you make a dry crossing of the river at Porvoo on Sarugao) I have yet to see presented. What I have found (and I didn't test every day! was; - Like RL, tides cycle from Highest to Lowest to High to Low then back to Highest. - Each high or low has approx 6 hours between it. - The least variation in tides is between High and Low, probably the best time for missions. Night Time Highest and Lowest Highest - Feb 11 Â 10:30pm Lowest - Feb 11 Â 6:30am Day Time Highest and Lowest Highest - Sept 11 Â 10:00am Lowest - Sept 11 Â 5:30pm These variations are fairly large, probably around 5 meters. eg - Sept 11th More RL Info; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tide Please feel free to add any extra or better info you have. the_shadow 0 Posted July 23, 2006 problem is, if you make a island with other coordinates then the default ones (like me thats making a swedish island) the tides will be WAY of, i got something like a 12m - 15m difference between high and low, and irl it shouldnt be more then about 0.5m - 1m difference. and i would like to know if someone has tried to make a island with 0 latitude (Equatorial line) and maybe even a 0 longitude. what happened with the tides then? if my guess is correct there should hardly be any at all (wich would be oppsite to real life as the tides generally become less the further north/south you go from the equator)
vektorboson 8 Posted July 23, 2006 Hi, please look here: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....l=tides EDIT: @Gnat You're right: The tides amplitude is exactly 5 meters, as you'll see in the code I linked.
the_shadow 0 Posted July 23, 2006 a question then, can i change that for my own island? i would REALLY like to remove most of the tides...
-HUNTER- 1 Posted July 23, 2006 DUUUUDE! Ive just gotten a masterfull idea, however I cannot make such a thing myself but it worth mentioning... How about you have like this cave with a entrance that would be fully underwater with high tide. The cave would run upwards a bit and you'd be able to sit in the back of the cave and have a hiding place above the water level. And with low tide you can enter or leave the cave... Sort of a SF mission thing in which you can put your zodiac because otherwise beachpatrols will catch you. Or CSAR missions... Its not the best english but I think you guys understand. This hasnt been done btw....
