Wook 0 Posted July 18, 2006 As the title says, this Patch Reqeust will be to improve OFP as it stands as the Genre King for all Tactical and Strategic Military Field Simulations to date. The content you may submit to this thread are: Real bugs, mission related errors or omissions, equipment datum inaccuracies, and such sundry details that would refine OFP in its longterm life beyond ArmA. Why? ArmA is soon to be upon us, as will be Game2 soon after and OFP2 whenever that all succeeds to the shelves. Adherent to these conditions OFP will be sidelined to such a degree that it will materially never be brought back into the forays of the developers to consider patching. That being said, this is an attempt to make a last call for OFP assuming, however accurately or inaccurately, that OFP may not presently be considered for any further improvements by the BIS DevTeam. This assesment would maintain that BIS assumed 1.96 to be the Final Patch. Why not? OFP like most all other Genre defining games that preceeded it will live well beyond itself and will continue to see some life I'm sure even 10 years down the line as long as some OS can sustain it. Why not fix all the small bothersome issues about it that current diehard fans of the game have found to further its golden years popularity. Categories to follow are: Required and Wishlist. Required items are those things that simply 'make the game'. Wishlist items are those things that you would have liked to see. I address this item category as most all have something they'd like to have seen. I will update this main front page first listing with both Required and Wishlist items along with the name of the individual pointing them out. Patch Request 1.97 Required Items to be addressed: 1. BRDM addon does not allow items to be placed in Cargo, I would assess that it should have equivalent Cargo space equal to the HMMV. [Vehicle Loadout Issue-Wook] 2. Truck dust trail on the left side of all trucks is placed too high so that all dust coming from the left side of trucks unnaturally starts at the level of the truck fender and clips through the vehicle cabin and troop cargoseat areas. [Visual Issue-Wook] 3. G36 reticule, center crosshair issue with non-nVidia video cards is blurred instead of crisp/sharp, it appears crisp/sharp on nVidia chipsets. This problem does not affect any other known crosshair/reticule even though the Hunting Rifle and M21 sights are similar in outward appearance. [Visual Issue-Wook] 4. Ak-47, Ak-47su, Ak-74 series 3-round burst mode. This does not exist for these weapons. Needs to be removed. [Tactical Weapon Modeling Issue-Wook] Wishlist Items to be reviewed: 1. Infantry longarm damage values biased and inaccurate. G36[11] and Steyr Aug[10] weapons use identical real-world ballistic values as M16[9] yet ingame is modeled 22% and 11% more damage for the same exact cartridge and ballistic profile. M21[10] and SVD[10] consequently have double the Energy on-impact of targets yet correspondingly ingame have the damage profile of the Steyr Aug[10] while the G36[11] does even more damage than M60[8]/PK[8] rounds. [Weapon Damage Modeling-Wook] Request G36[11] and Steyr Aug[10] use same damage value of M16[9] instead of current values to model real-world equivalents ingame. Request M60[8] and PK[8] use same damage values as M21/SVD[10] as they are using the same real-world cartridges and ballistic values as M21/SVD. 2. MM-1 and 6G30 weapon sights are set to hit at some 5-10 meters from user. This kills the weaponuser. Â [Weapon Gameplay Issue-Wook] Request MM-1, 6G30 weaponsights be set to 100 meters minimum distance. This frontpage will be updated as new information is submitted by the OFP Community in this thread.
Metal Heart 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Ehhh... Ummm.... Why don't you just use mods and addons like everyone else? Stuff like WGL and FDF really improve and add to the game like 156187.524 times more than a little patch that fixes three or so very minor issues in the default units that no one likes in the first place would. Wook 0 Posted July 18, 2006 BRDM characteristic is inherited by all addons that use it as a base model. Truck dust script bug is inherited by all addons that use it as a base model. G36 reticle bug happens to many people with non-nVidia video cards. [Edit- G36 Reticle issue is inherited by any addon that uses it as a base reticle model. There must be some nuance in this graphics file causing this that does not show up in M21, Hunting Rifle reticle models as well.] Ak-47 family 3-round burst mode is inherited by all addons that use it as a base model. Addons don't 'fix' these problems unless the addon maker specifically targets the malfunction of the bug in their creation which most do not address. Its visible still even in many of the best mods. Thanks for the criticism. [Edit- If you've not noticed approximately half or more of the active servers for OFP use stock/plain vanilla OFP without Mods. Many other servers who allow Addons have basic addons based on the BIS originals. These enhancements would remedy not only issues found for stock OFP players and in many respects assist their gaming pleasure and realistically add to the OFP experience but would also realistically fix many longterm issues with both stock/plain OFP and the many addons based on the original OFP/BIS units. These fixes would also go a ways to helping to balance stock MFCTI's and crCTI's that do not have additional modified units as well. Remember, this is about refining OFP, not a Mod Advertisment thread. There are plenty of those already.]
IceFLYER 0 Posted July 18, 2006 I got one. I start the game up (Operation Flashpoint Resistance, latest version). I go immediatly to the mission editor and start putting together a mission. I make waypoints for the player to follow and I also make a get in waypoint into a chopper (or even an airplane, just as long as it's a naturally flying vehicle). I then preview the mission. Everything seems fine, except I can't see the yellow box to follow the waypoints. Â I check to see if it's my settings but my setting tell me I am in Cadet mode and have the extended hud info enabled. Â I should be seeing the yellow waypoint box but I can't. I then decide to go into the flying vehicle (the chopper) and I all of a sudden can see the next waypoint appear in the form of the yellow boxes. I get out of the flying chopper and the waypoint dissapears. Â What's wrong here? The only solution I have to this is by exiting the editor and starting a single player mission (with cadet mode and extended hud enabled) and then going back to the mission editor and previewing the mission once again. Now, at last, I can see every waypoint when previewing. Is this a bug, or is it me? please have read carefully before responding, or am I just ---IceFLYER It's as if the mission editor does not recognize the option to see waypoints appear in game in the previewing section (I am not talking about the option to see waypoints appear on the mapscreen)
Wook 0 Posted July 18, 2006 IceFlyer I've noticed the waypoint issue before but cannot for sure say whether it is intended or not to work that way. What I would rather have in place of the non-appearing waypoint in Veteran games is for the map location to be said instead of "Move to Bush 081,176" but instead "Move to Bush Bd21" when that is the case. If there is enough feedback on this I'll make note of it in the primary post under [Waypoint Navigation Issue-IceFlyer].
Metal Heart 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Quote[/b] ]Is this a bug, or is it me? Editor preview is in veteran mode by default, it's more like a feature than a bug. My guess is that if you play single mission in cadet mode it stays on cadet in the editor too. Anyway, cadet = forPussies and waypoints = forPussies so who cares
IceFLYER 0 Posted July 18, 2006 ...in refereance to the above mission editor glitches and whatnot I guess it's really two possible glitches Not seeing the waypoint when on foot (the glitch), and the waypoint appears only when in a vehicle that has the ability to fly but dissappears when getting out (the possible glitch) Later
