RobFire91 0 Posted July 13, 2006 Hello everyone, I love this game, but sadly she doesn't love me back. I get the crashing and freezing and then the "Cannot create 3D device" error message. I've searched these forums and Avon Lady's FAQ, but nothing seems to be helping me. I'm using 1.96 and have the War Games mod with the CoC Arty V 1.0. I've always had this problem even before the addons and mod. Here's my DxDiag stuff ------------------ System Information ------------------ <snipped> Any help would be so great, thanks in advance. RobFire91 0 Posted July 13, 2006 Defragging now, hope this works. I've already tried lowering video settings.
RobFire91 0 Posted July 13, 2006 Defrag didn't help any.
Placebo 29 Posted July 14, 2006 Firstly please do not post your DXdiag text in here, it's a very poor way to list your system specs as it requires that anyone trying to help will have to wade through lines of meaningless garbage, you should manually list the core system specs. Secondly cannot create is most often related to driver/directx installation issues, searching will most probably tell you that and suggest you first try running all of the video tests in DXdiag. JdB 151 Posted July 14, 2006 One time I didn't get rid of this problem by "regular" solutions, and Placebo told me to reinstall DirectX, that did the trick for me...
RobFire91 0 Posted July 14, 2006 Sorry for the Dx Diag, I thought it would help. I've done the tests and that didn't help and I also disabled and re-enabled Direct Draw Acceleration, because I read that it might help, but it didn't. Would re-installing Direct X really be neccessary? I just came out of a reformat.
Placebo 29 Posted July 14, 2006 Did you update to the latest DirectX after reformat? Are other games working? IMO it can only help to download latest directx and run the installer again: DirectX 9.0c Redistributable
RobFire91 0 Posted July 14, 2006 Other games are working fine, this is the only one that is giving me trouble. Updating DirectX didn't help.
Placebo 29 Posted July 15, 2006 Try listing your system specs and driver versions then. IIRC another reported fix was to use older drivers (if your GFX card is Geforce especially).

j w 0 Posted July 15, 2006 Try revert to old drivers, or installing 3rd party drivers (not from the manufacturer of the piece of hardware you're updgrading). Has worked for me alot of times in the past. EDIT: NVM, doesn't matter.
Heatseeker 0 Posted July 15, 2006 2.4 Ghz Celeron Processor768 MB RAM Nvidia GeForce 6600 with 78.01 drivers 80 GB Hard Drive 91.31 forceware work for me, i used to have that error before and i have 6600gt too, give them a try .
RobFire91 0 Posted July 16, 2006 Seems to not crash with the 91.31 drivers, but I get some weird stuff with my graphics. I'll get a screenshot when I'm at my gaming computer.

I set it 256MB, was that the right thing to do? No it wasnt, change it back to 64. Good thing this one wasnt locked. That pic is familiar, i used to have this in OPFR, vbs1 and GTA:SA. Quote[/b] ]Go to: Start->control panel (might wanna change control panel to classic view)->display->settings->advanced->troubleshooting->> bellow the hardware acceleration slider there is a box you have to untick, it should be something like activate combined writting, im not sure because my XP version is not english but should be something like that. Just unselect this little box and apply the changes. Now it should ask you to reboot the PC, reboot the PC.. Install 91:31 and do the above, im confident that all your probs will go away .
