OFP Troubles

Recommended Posts

So heres the problem when I goto start flashpoint I get this error.

Quote[/b] ]error2ig.jpg

I've been seeing some red and yellow dots on my screen on my desktop and on pictures on the internet and offline.

I can usually figure OFP problems out myself but this one I can't. Maybe my GFX card is really damaged or something I don't know.

Nope, your card should be fine but its always good to test with something called "other games", you know... that other stuff people game with out there.

Does you monitor support 1280x1024 at 75hz refresh rate? Do you have Vsync enabled? I had OPFR break D3D on my system before, doesnt happen on my nvidia card with the latest drivers anymore.

You can get D3D working again if you reboot your PC yes?

Try to run OPFR with Vsync disabled and tell me if it works smile_o.gif .

Ok none of my "other games" work. I tried CoD2 and Full Spectrum Warrior and they both don't work. Same D3D error or something.

Yes my monitor supports that setting I've always used that same resolution with all my games.

Uh... thats more worrying, have you restarted you PC after that error? This should get D3D back and running again, you might wanna reinstall video card drivers if not.

Hopefully you wont have to reinstall DX... it doesnt seem like a HW issue but you might wanna check your GPU temperature and if the cooling fan is dust free and running, just to be safe wink_o.gif .

edit: Reboot and run dxdiag, tell me it passed all the tests confused_o.gif .

It happens whenever I start my computer so restarted won't help.

I've installed the latest ATI drivers.

How can I check my GPU temperature? My fan has been making really bad noises lately when I thing about it.

When I run dxdiag It won't allow me to run Direct3D test. The button is greyed out.

Did you try to change the resolution and/or refresh rate´? That fixed a similar problem I had ages ago.

AFAIK, some BIOS have that, I just have CPU temp and system temp, but if your card is making noises, it migth gotten stuck or is in peices as we speak.

Open up the computer, take the graphiccard out, check if there is alot of dust between the fan and the coolingsink ontop of the GPU, if there is, use a vaccumcleaner (and your fingers if needed) to take it away. (Dust kills your comp!! )

But since it's making alot of wierd noises it's probably wrecked...

Are you sure the strange noises come from the graphics card? If d3d id fecked in your PC reinstalling dx should fix that no? smile_o.gif .

I opened the computer up with a can of dust off ready to clean it out. The first thing I noticed was how hot it was inside. I started blowing the dust out and it looked like my computer went up in smoke heh.

I took a look at the GFX card and I tried to spin the fan. It didn't spin. I pulled some thick pieces of dust out of it and it still wouldn't spin. I powered the computer up open and I saw that the fan was not spinning at all.

So will I have to get a new card or replace the fan?

If you don't replace the fan very, very soon then yes you'll need a new card as you will do irreparable damage to the card (if it hasn't been done already).

You don't mention what graphics card it is, but most good online stores should have very effective cooling systems available for your card at a reasonable price, you'll find they're quieter and more effective than the stock heatsink/fan.

Here's a random one for a Geforce 6800/7800

http://www.thecoolingshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=1933

As you see it includes its own heatsink and fan and has an exhaust system to blow the hot air straight back out of the PC.

It's a Radeon 9800 Pro and I think the irreparable damage was done b/c I've had it running w/o a fan for quite sometime.

Well I saw ATI X850 for the same price I bought the 9800 for on newegg (with rebates). So I guess I'll get a new card soon.

Thanks for the help everyone! smile_o.gif

Chipper

Sound like you wanted new card anyhow smile_o.gif

Seriously, Chipper, I had some simular problems and actually still do on boot up. 2 seperate issues.

1 - power supply was not big enough to handle load ( I ahd to go from standard 350 w to a 500 w (I think it was)

2- I have a MSI mother board, Via chip set, Athalon CPU. Problem when booting is video card is not recognized until full boot up. (I'm still waiting for an answer for this one from the techies)

Good luck
