climbing trees

i know i might get flamed for this but i think it's worth adding on.

the sniper should be able to climb trees in order to get a better vantage and to be able to snipe. there is military precedent for this tactic and it's been employed very effectively. as it stands the terrain dosen't benefit the sniper very much in this game, there are a lot of hills which limit your range and if you got an open field you got bushes which you can't peer over. realisticly i don't see a sniper going to the top branches of a tree, might as well volunteer to be target practice and there is no way he can aim with the branches moving so much up there.

so in effect, is this worth putting in the game?

Climbing ladders were pretty recent, and there were a lot of problems with them before.

Right now, there are a few problems regarding ladders.

So you might see climbing trees in patch v1.60, but not very soon.

Speaking of a sniper's disadvantage, his camo doesn't really help at all either. Niether do bushes.

Bushes become transparent on low quality settings.

This is for MP, of course.

In SP, a sniper is basically completely invisible from 300 meters.

He could be lying down on a flat road, and AI would never see him.

It could be put to good use, but it would require lots of more coding. Alot of coding, an extrem lo of cover.

the snipers with the bush camo on them is very neat.

its gives you more advantage plus there are bushes everywhere in the maps.If the sniper hides nobody will notice him.

I cant see climbing to trees as an option.... Generally you should think it so that soldiers try to stay as close to ground as possible, preferably underground.

irl climbing to trees may be an option, but in ofp it isnt because the tree leaf is not realistic enough to give enough cover.

i would say that climbing to trees in ofp would give the sniper a 200 % chance to a faster death, especially with these ai soldiers shooting at 600 m a cigarette out off your mouth.

You can get on a tree by ejecting from ya cessna just before hitting a tree. (Those trees that the cessna can fly through)

I was once in a tree. My brother was chasing my Kiowa with an Apache, so i ejected. I landed in the woods, but got stuck in a tree top. I was very high above the ground and i thought "hmmmm, wish i had a snipergun now" as i saw my other brother running around and i could shoot him. Unfortunately i fell out after a while and died

It wouldnt be realistic if snipers could climb trees because they dont in real life.

They stay low to the ground because it is to easy to be seen in a tree and it is very hard to balance enough to take a aimed shot

IMO first of all its unrealistic, second of all id think ud stand out like hell (a big fuzzball coming out of the tree), third of all there is nothing to even REST on! no branches, no nothing. the leaves are just 2d images that anyone can move through. theres no where you'd even be able to stay on, not to mention the branches wouldnt be suitable for snipers anyway, you'd need a tree with alot more stonger and further out branches (which OPF doesnt have)
