Ike_Trak 0 Posted May 24, 2006 First of all let me express my thanks for making OFP more playable, enjoyable and valuable for us, without you, without all these efforts this game would have hit the dustbin long time ago compared to taday's standarts. I have a request as I wrote in the topic. I sometimes for an almost long time part from computer and OFP due to work and other things, when I get back I scan the sites and mass-download anything new, some other people might be in the same situation like me. As this downloading takes time, after its finished I begin sorting them out (i.e. weapon addon, infantry addon, vehicle addon, aircraft addon, etc...). However during this process if the filename of the .zip or .exe or .rar does not mean anything and if theres no readme in the archive, this becomes painfull as you have to revisit the site, scroll all addons (imagine that in ofp.info), takes too much time. So my request is make some readme or if not, and better yet for fastest categorization or recognition: make the filename refers to the inculuded addons. Again thank you for putting the effort for our benefit. With my best regards,
ebud 18 Posted May 24, 2006 One of my pet peeves is when an addon has a readme in the file, but it's just named "readme.txt". I have to then extract and rename it if I want to keep it in the addons folder. Just a bit annoying.
HotShot 0 Posted May 24, 2006 You could just Download each file to their Catagory folder in the first place.
mrn 0 Posted May 24, 2006 I've been tempted with a topic like this too. So I have a folder with all the readme's in a specific folder, oddly enough called addonreadmes so I always know where to look for class names (another peeve of mine, why should I have to de-pbo and look in the .cpp file just to find out what a gun is called and more to the point what ammo it uses or what name of dude to spawn?) but virtually every new addon means renaming the readme to something relevant. It's such a simple thing but the easier you make it for people to use your addon the more popular it will be. And another thing while I'm ranting why not include a sample description.ext in the readme to enable easy use of weapons in a mission? BTW I don't want to sound ungrateful, the only reason I'm playing this game nowadays is some of the addons that have been released, it's just harder than it should be sometimes. I used to think like that in the beginning many moon's ago!But when you start doing thing's for yourself (this apply's to everything in flashpoint) When you eventualy suss it out the reward make's it worth it!
