Hey there guys i've looked through all the topics pertaining to crash to desktops tried all the -nomap -nospash stuff tried old drivers old versions of OFP tried a fresh re-install after a full computer reboot no joy. so i'll post my system specs and the crash thing from OFP i hope i can get it working again i've used this game for ages and will be mightily upset if i can't get it working again.

5GB of page file memory is an awfull lot. It may not be the reason of your CTD, but the general idea for PF is to have 1,5X as much PF as you have physical memory (in your case around 1.500MB - 1024MB).

A PF that is too large has a negative effect on performance and discspace.

Is that the virtual memory thing? if not how do i change it?

It could be that your settings are too high (visibility/terrain detail! or perhaps a sound problem, put on the detective hat, type "C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 005DAF07" on the search thingy and read .

the search thing only brings up this topic for me if you have information from another topic if you could point me toward it i'd be much obliged Hrmm in terms of the terrain visability i have tried it on 5000 and 500 it makes no difference infact sometimes the 5000 one lasts longer than the 500 games Terrain detail is on Very low and always has been lol.

Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Advanced - Performance - Settings - Advanced - Virtual Memory - Change - Custom Size

Set "Initial size" to 512 & "Maximum size" to 1500.

Thanks buddy thought it was that just wasnt sure of the terminology. i'll give it a whirl see if it runs any better

Edit: it still seems random with the virtual memory lowered it crashed 1st time in about 10 mins and the 2nd time in 17.

There are many topics about access violation but not many solutions im afraid .

This one could help but i honestly doubt it, have you tried lowering you resolution and disabling vsync?

yup i've never used Vsync actually because i've had it conflict with other games before. resolution i've lowered quite often and still no joy

hrm could well be i got my -nomap -nospash muddled i've tired with no addons mods different patches etc i'll go check if my short cut is right

Well it's not so much you got -nomap -nosplash muddled, it makes no difference what order they're in, it's the fact they seem (according to the error message) to be in the middle of the filename wich .exe coming after? No idea if that is the problem, just doesn't look right to me.

heh i just realised that was from way back when i didn't know where to put no map no splash i put them inside the file name heh i'll get rid of them! thats a relic of a looong time ago.

Well, they are pretty important, you might be better off sticking them after the .exe, rather than getting rid of them. Unless thats what you meant.

yeh thats what i meant i had them after it from before anyway i jsut had it in the filename too O_o back when i was computer iliterate
