Dynamic tracks

Recommended Posts

Maccollo (otherwise known as general at these forums) is developing a dynamic track. Instead of a moving texture, it's supposed to be that the tracks move around the wheels. Looks cool.

Download movie ~2,48MB

All credits to Maccollo, he just asked me to post it overhere.

<s>Put in OT cause he isn't trying to implement it for OFP, maybe for ArmA or other games?</s>

Thanks for clearing, Hellfish

Just as a note: Maccollo told me to write that it's just a prototype. Just FYI smile_o.gif

EDIT: Now the newer version in this post to.

Addons and mods: discussion is the best place for it, regardless of which OFP engine game it's for. smile_o.gif

this project comes to a sudden halt. If I wanna continue with it, I need at least twice the computer power I have now. dynamics at this scale usally aren't a problem, but when things are linked togeather as a chain the computer have to calculate the influence from one link (like weight, speed and so on) to the link next to it, and the next to that one and so on. and this takes more than 5 times as much computer power as normal dynamics. however... I've proven that it's possible... in a few years tounge2.gif

anyway... this is as far as I got... for the moment...

here's the last clip

Dynamic track ~2.48 mb

it's just a bit slower than the one in the first post.

nice idea...

which engine did you use? i tried something similar with maya-dynamics, but like you said you need a lot of power to count all the dependencies... i think we have to wait some years

btw: if your interested in dynamics, have you seen melbotwars? a nice project for maya... just google for it and you'll find some interesting vids...

yup, maya 7.0

the idea was sort of to capture the movement of the track as an animation.
