Sopmod 0 Posted November 24, 2005 I bought the game a few days ago and am enjoying it very much. I'm getting used to managing addons, the editor, etc. I have a nice collection of addons downloaded and put into my custom folders. My only problem is that everything seems a bit messy. Can anyone here give me a good guideline in categorizing them? I'd like to tidy up my stuff.
Itseme 0 Posted November 24, 2005 I think this should belong to General. You really should have used the search function, although its pretty messed up i think. Well i would say you should divide them in addon Studios or single developers, some standard addons should be in your normal addons folder when you want to play often in multiplayer. Like editor addon 1.2. Also you should obey addon dependencies, which can mostly be found in the readme.
gandalf the white 0 Posted November 24, 2005 The best tip I can give you is to use Modfolders and this mod selector . **mod folders** A modfolder is structured in thesame way as the "res" folder. The "mod" has a name (res) , in wich addons ( subfolder named "addons" ) and other stuff is stored. the "res" modfolder also has some BIN , DTA , and other files, but you dont need knowledge of this (yet?) To start a mod you can either use the tool above, wich explains itself, or edit a shortcut. ( add a "<space>-modname,modname2,modname3). Do keep in mind that if you use mods with a config.bin , only one can be used. **ways to organise modfolders** one: you could place a "@" for every mod's name (@modname1), so when you organise your ofp folder by alphabetical order, those files get listed first. two: Make a subfolder "@MODS" (@ is optional), and put the rest of the modfolders in there. If you choose for this option, you must also specify the "@MODS" in the shortcut (example: -mod=@MODS\modname1 ) Hope this helped, if not: see the troubleshooting section
eestikas88 0 Posted November 24, 2005 well thats what addon folders are about you could view them as a list and remember what are those files there.when i first viewed my addon folder everything looked messy to me too.
Sopmod 0 Posted November 24, 2005 Actually, I used the search function and found a thread specifically asking about mod folders. It wasn't what I was looking for though. It was also moved to this section of the forums, so I thought my thread belonged here. Quote[/b] ]two: Make a subfolder "@MODS" (@ is optional), and put the rest of the modfolders in there. If you choose for this option, you must also specify the "@MODS" in the shortcut (example: -mod=@MODS\modname1 ) Ah, that's more like it. I know most of the other stuff (well, sorta ). Like I said, I'm trying to find a way to tidy up a bit. Thanks for the help everyone.

If you want to run several mods in the same time you add ; like -mod=modname1;modname2 You should also add -nomap to the shortcut as it solves many CTD's. -nosplash removes the intro screens if you want to get the game started faster. So this is recommended to be added to the shortcut: -nosplash -nomap -mod=modname1;modname2 Normally you shouldn't run two 'real mods' simutaniously as they usually come with new configs for OFP but if you still do then the config of the mod mentioned last in the the shortcut will be used. ade_mcc 0 Posted November 24, 2005 Each to their own and all that! I (and im not alone here) quite like Kegety's OFP Launcher Linky Its clean, tidy and looks nice. But I'll be honnest, I never did get round to trying the one suggested by gandalf the white above. So give them a go! On mod folders themselves, some people go for scenarios (WWII / Vietnam/etc). I personally go by author (BAS/FDF/etc). Go with what works for you but try to keep a grasp on what ones are dependant on others and which ones clash. Good luck! clausewitz 1 Posted November 25, 2005 A lot od FAQs you can found on The Avon Lady's OFP Page Enter "Modfolders" to the search function and you will find a description how to create these. I made a detailed walkthrough concerning modfolders while using Kegetys' excellent OFP Launcher, but it's available only in german. Because I was told the The Avon Lady did such a thing in english, I didn't see the benefit to do it twice. For the case you are able to understand german, take a look over here.
