nice pics! idk if this would be considered a little off-topic, but are those uniforms solely for 1980's-era soviet soldiers? (i.e. during what time period were they using those uniforms? do russian soldiers today wear different uniforms?) also, why were the russians using winter uniforms in afghanistan and not russia? or did they use both in both?

as you can see, i don't know much of anything about the history of russian camo; any information would be greatly appreciated...

Such winter combat coat was adopted by Soviet Red Army during middle and late 80s after the Soviet army was in fight in Afghanistan for years. Some new uniforms were in service since then. Such winter uniform could be used both in Afghanistan and the whole Soviet army in Russia and Europe.

Currently, the Russian army are using the similar winter uniform in camo. But I think the design shoud be the same basically with six pockets.

Up to now, I'm not sure how you guys could revise the pics just from screenshoots? What tool applied?

I use Photoshop but as soem suggested there is Irfanview a great freeware tool that also makes you able to rezise and do lot of other editing.
