CounterForce 0 Posted November 13, 2005 I'm sure the team will open the addons up IF they should ever leave OFP. Though I am not so sure about that, I doubt that anybody would ever know, if this mod leaves OFP and allowes public downloads. btw: What is the use of this addon? You can't include it in any mission available for public, because once the download from Team Yankee is impossible nobody will be able to play your mission. Just another screenshot addon? Don't think so, because you would make the addon (at least portions of it - how it looks like) available to public, if you publish your screenshot. And this is not allowed as quoted in the email sent by Team Yankee. Can you use this addon for anything without breaking the license? About the copyright issues: I won't comment on the fact, that this "license" is hidden somewhere in the download and the very rude emails sent to the newssites which did not want to break any copyright. But I have my doubts that this license is really legal. If I remember the german law correctly (and Team Yankee seems to be German), a license must be accepted by the user. The users didnot even read the license before uploading it to the mirrors - how can team yankee believe that the license was accepted and therefore legal? Team Yankee has the make sure, the user knows the license. If they wanted to make sure that this license is worth anything, why not to publish the addon with an installer? Usually you have to accept a license if you want to install something. Just some kids who want to act like professionals?
Antichrist 0 Posted November 13, 2005 well has anybody bothered asking him if you could be allowed to post these. Why??? It's a lot more simple to just go skyhigh, start speaking of banning the mod and not reporting about them anymore Why would I talk to someone who is being total dick? If somebody insults you for no reason on the street do you go asking him why did he do it and what can be done to avoid it in the future? No! U just ignore him. That's what I am planning to do. CanadianTerror 0 Posted November 14, 2005 So what's with the pulling of downloads then? It's an F'n traffic light for god's sake. Â

No, if someone doesn't know about the license, then normal copyright kicks in, which disallows redistribution without written permission from the author. So you have to read the license before you can redistribute any addon, if this is allowed at all. It seems that many people in this community forget that this is  a f**king game and not a business... Therefore I can only shake my head at such a behaviour. Perhaps I just should released my own traffic lights addon, that is now about 3 years old...
LennyD 0 Posted November 14, 2005 Jeee...this is blown up bigger than it is in reality I hope there will be a statement from the mod soon to get all of this out of the way. I can only say that, even with my favor for a VERY open copyright, i can fully understand the action...due to the story behind it. There is a big dilemma here now.... write the reason into this forum and (eventually) start a possible flameware or just let it all calm down a littel but suffer from a bad reputation in the com??? Well, it does not matter how you turn it, the modteam has lost allready. There have been dozents of cases on this forum, where something was stolen without permission, people were left allone from a part of the com or similar... all of these cases ended in flamewars where one of the admins hat to put an end to it. Even if the type of reaction was wrong in some cases, mostly there was a good reason. So why do we start here again? There are always two points of view. You only now one side. And, with the atmospher beeing as it is at the moment, you don't have to wounder why there is no reaction from the team up to now. If you read all, that is posted here, it's only natural to get upset...but try to see all, not just parts of it. There was a simple term of asking before hosting...for a reason. This is new and unusual, but on the other hand, how can i possibly host files i haven't checked? There could be everything in them...i#m responisble for the files i host...i must have a look at them. So it is by all means possible to read a readme before hosting. The addon is open to all, because everybody can dl it from the team-webside...this is (in reaction to a certain occasion) a, in the teams opinion, nessesary measure. So, where is the problem? I don't see one. A new addon is there and every farmer and his donkey can get it. Calling for banns or talking about "crapy, unneeded Addons" is a reaction i normaly don't know from this com. Why have i been the only one to ask for the reason? Emails in what ever format or not... how can i blame a team for an action, if it was my fault that led to the complain... i SHOULD have taken a look at the readme. We all want the others to read what we write...so in return we have to respect and READ what others write, too. So i ask you again to ask them why they took this option before grabbing the stones to throw at them. @vektorboson: sadly there are some cases, where the buisness takes a gift to the com to make money....there has been a case recently I beginn understanding some of the blokes i criticized and fought for their hard copyright policy...i realy feel sorry
Arne 0 Posted November 14, 2005 As people here tend not to stay on-topic I have asked a Mod to close this thread. If you want to continue a serious discussion about the addon and not the new license I invite you to visit our forums. But please stay on-topic there. There will be a short statement about the new regulations people like to discuss here and the reasons behind them the next days on our homepage. thank you for your patience, Arne
