Large scale battles - Are there any missions?

At first: No I don't plan to create a complete mission like this myself. smile_o.gif

I'm just wondering if there are any custom missions around, that feature large battles.

Have a look at this picture.

Looks like a russian strategy in times of the cold war...?

Missions close to this, that I remeber playing in OFP:

- Battlefields

- One mission of the old UTLOC campaign

- The Black Gap

They all feature many units. But over time and not at once.

While thinking about that, I've made a small mission template:

<u>This template is supposed to be played in the editor! No goals. No end.

It's not pboed and you have to know, how to select an unit as player, and you should be able to "read" the waypoints in editor, as there is no real briefing.</u>

It's addon free, so you can try all your replacement mods with it.

Of course the CPU load is very high.

With dxdll only and a benchmark of 5555, I had still playable 7 fps when the battle became hot.

With ECP it becomes a real event, but then I had unplayable 4 fps every now and then.

US are holding three villages as frontline, and expect the attack from the SE.

- one M1A1 company (12 tanks)

- one infantry company (~150 soldiers + 4 trucks for some of them)

- one Vulcan platoon (4 tanks)

- two Apaches

- two repair trucks

- two ambulances

Russia flanks there positions surprisingly from the SW, with a large scale attack. They plan to coquer all the villages.

- one T80 company (12 tanks)

- one mechanized infantry company (12 APCs + ~150 soldiers)

- one Shilka platoon (4 tanks)

- two Hinds

- two repair trucks

- two ambulances

Player has no special role assigned. You're encouraged to select any unit you would like to be in this battle! (If you wan't to be squad leader, have a look at the waypoints before playing, to know what the AI leader would do! )

The AI and the waypoints handle the battle on their own, so if you like, just hide and watch them killing each other.

Anyone who would like to create a real mission with this is welcome. The template was just a crazy idea, made playable on the rush.

I made a really cool battle on my Saint David Island that had tons of units on it. Helicopters, tanks, infantry, planes etc. and it didn't lag very bad somehow but I don't know what I did with it.

I love missions like that I have made some really cool ones like that but eventually I just put too many units and they become unplayable.

Cool coincidence, I'm making some large scale tank and combined arms battles on Saint David at the moment. biggrin_o.gif I know what you mean Trapper: keep an eye on the Blood Brothers campaign... tounge2.gif

big battles in ofp are cool,i always want to find them from campagins and missions and when i dont find any then i make one myself-nothing fancy,some objectives,a goal to win,go and kill. pistols.gif

*cough* shameless plug *cough*

Check out my old mission Platoon Commander. It isn't combined-arms, but you do get to loosely control a 34-man platoon, taking on a roughly 100-man enemy force. Lots of shooting from the AI, lots of fun smile_o.gif.

ok,i started working on a mission with big amount of units,it's about 25% done....and best of all,its with ICP infantry,tanks and

the greatest...SFP 4.0 YEAH!

island is everon.(i use wgl island replacement)

a sudden attack to Everon (Swedish forces attack).

Player and his squad are deployed on the beach with 2 other squads.And then you can only guess the rest.Objectives become visible during the mission and i'm not telling you anything wink_o.gif

btw. if i say many units i mean A LOT OF THEM.

prepare for possible lag.No voice acting incuded.

These are the missions I play/make. I don't like really big, yet I do like sufficient force

When making coop missions:

Pl Vs Reinf. Pl sized missions.

Examples:

Breakthrough

Air Assault

Shark Company

Lapin Pojan Harharaket

Pl Air Assault 1 (Op Argyle)

When making PvP coop missions:

I like to have 2:1 forces, however it fluctuates.

Examples:

Bridge Assault

Regina Assault

These are only multiplayer unfortunately.

For SP I play the command campaign by Snake Man. However you have to work through the frustation of the abominal OFP AI. I just finished mission 5 on it, very good fun smile_o.gif I am an awful commander smile_o.gif
