Internal Conflict, HOW to win?

Recommended Posts

Quite a while ago, I was thoroughly enjoying the very challenging Tonal Island campaign, and then the campaign came to a screeching halt with the mission known as Internal Conflict. In spite of trying literally DOZENS of different strategies I have been unable to complete this mission. I'm hoping some veterans of this campaign can give me some winning strategies.

---------------------------------------------

Here's where I have this mission saved at (please see the screenshot below for greater clarity):

(1) We have just successfully inserted ourselves outside the city, near the southernmost shanty town. The entire squad I was with is still alive and under the control of an A.I. leader. We have eliminated the guards that first "greet" us at the very start of the mission. I have lost the armored vehicle but still have the armed ural.

(2) The armed ural usually gets taken out by a rpg within the next 2-3 minutes of play. There is no way for me to save it.

(3) I still have have two air support strikes that I can radio in: the one from the frogfoot jet, and the other from an assault helicopter. I have assigned one aircraft to attack Area 1 and the other aircraft to assault Area 2. While these attacks may be effective, within 3-5 minutes of the assault the area becomes repopulated with swarms of rebels. Perhaps I need to reserve these airstrikes for a certain occassion/event? If so, what, and when?

(4) My squad eventually gets shot to pieces WHEREVER it goes, and this occurs even if the command falls to me.

(5) I almost wonder if this mission is designed to be "lost." If so, I guess I can't even do that correctly. tounge2.gif

i]please[i] lend me your advice. This mission is driving me crazy! [img]<a href=http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif' alt='crazy_o.gif'>

Should I stick close to my slow moving squad at all times?

When should I call in those airstrikes? Which aircraft should attack where, and when? Also, HOW should they be directed to attack said target (precision, area, etc. etc.)?

Should I abandon my squad early in the game to stealthily infiltrate an area, or...?

Thank you!

Kyle

Wait till the T55 with the Tatu Guard comes in the town. Stick with the T55 and try to defend it against RPG's.

Also breach the entry of the city with a Frogfoot airstrike, this way the BRDM and UAZ will survive for maybe a couple minutes longer wink_o.gif

Tis a tricky mission this one. Took me a long time to complete.

I notice from the pic that you're going into the town left of the mian road. Have you tried going to the right of it? I always do this, alone if I have to. Use the shanties to take cover behind, and pick off the enemies. But the end of this my leader is normally dead, and I have command of 6-7 members left if I remember rightly.

AI are poor at urban settings. Remember this. You could spend 10 minutes lying next to a building picking off enemy after enemy whilst the other squads get slaughtered if thats what it takes to finish the mission.

The leaders waypoints arn't the best.

So heres my stratagy.

1. Follow your leader to the edge of town.

2. Before going in, head right and go in 40m+ from the road.

3. Kill the guards that come towards you. Theres lots of them. Pick you the weapons of your choice. I normally pick and RPG7 and a AK47, if i've run out of ammo for my regualr gun.

4. After this, you might/probably will have command. If you do, keep your units behind you, you'll need them later.

5. Move down the allys north until you reach a large open area with small fences.

6. Work your way back to the main road, then head north along that road with your squad in collum or staggered collum.

7. Call in your airstrikes if you want. I normally forget, it doesn't make much of a difference in my opinion.

8. Clear area 1.

9. Move down the road to Area 2. By now, nearly everyone should be dead.

10. Clear Area 2.

11. Leave some squad members in the square, then go off and check nearby streets and allys for enemys until the objective ticks.

12. Pat self on back and send cash to Greg147

Good luck smile_o.gif

Yay! I finally got a response to my thread! biggrin_o.gif

The highly detailed advice is greatly appreciated, and I will act upon BOTH strategies as soon as time permits. This is a VERY challenging mission, and I have a feeling I'll be grinding my teeth even with the sound advice presented here.

Feel free to send more my way. Odds are I'll need it!

Yours,

Kyle

Wasn't it a buggy mission? As I can remember there were a discussion about it, one can kill every rebel in town but mission never ends... huh.gif

I thought that there was two versions of this mission - one that came in the campaign, and another that came with one of the later addons, but I do not know what the difference between the two was.

The stand alone missions did however give you the option to go in on foot or in the tank (I forget which).

Going in on foot, the best I have ever done is by advancing slowly down the main street picking off enemies as we go. (there are loads of them). Never been able to get a check on the main square though before being ordered to retreat. Once we had retreated, we were re-inforced and we advanced once again, only to be met by even more rebles.

Never got to a finished scene without dying however.

I keep playing though, as for atmospherics, its a cracking mission.

Never tried the airstrikes though....Gona boot it up tonight and give it another whirl.

Hi ade_mcc,

Bang on mate:

* The campaign version is bugged and the end won't trigger AKAIK. Suggest you keep playing 'til you can't find any more Rebels, then use the Endmission cheat as described by Matt Rochelle.

* The fixed version came with the Tonali Special Forces. The fearsome BTR-T acts as both transport and support in this version, but I don't think you get the air support options. You can play either as a rifleman or as gunner in the BTR-R (OK - that's three versions if you're being picky wink_o.gif )

Classic mission. Especially now I've added ECP eventhandlers to my BAS_OPCPP smile_o.gif

Cheers,

CH
