Maldita Vecindad 1 Posted January 16, 2002 This is really pissing me off... so far i haven't been able to play OFP...... Do I have to rely in a pirated versdion to play this game? what's the use of buying a game if you can't play it? Many softwares companies keep talking about how pirated versions ruin their businesses... But sometimes they don't even offer the minimal support to actual game buyers so many of Us have to rely in pirating just to play a game as great as OFP. Nowdays teh business of selling a PCgame (or other soft in general) is not just make some moron buy a CDROOM. You, as a software distributor, have to provide a continuous service to a product you sell (at least for a year). I know some of you will come here telling me that my CDROMS sucks, my motherboard sucks, and other yadda yadda yadda.... But the reality is that all my components obey to the standarts of the PC business. Things like the infamous safedisk2 don't. As I see it safedisk2 is just something to piss off game buyers cause weeks after it was release the net was full of softwares to crackit. why CODEMASTERS doesn't publish a list of compatibles CD-ROMS? Guess they are not interested in users. The have sold 1,000,000 copies of OFP at least 30 bucks and they can't create a decent user support department? They send you an "we're sorry but with have a backlog" e-mail. I don't want excuses. I want service. I want support. If I just want it a CDROOM with the game I would just have download it a pirated version from the internet and burn it. That's why PCgaming business will never be the best. Console gaming will always provide you with a nice gaming experience without the continous frustration of tecnical incompatibilities we have at the PC gamming world. (And I must say I hate Consoles). As I now see it my only solution now is to get a pirated version of OFP and never buy a game from CODEMASTERS again... at least not until they prove me wrong and start giving support to their game buyers..... Sorry for taking your time guys but I had to get it out of my system and wanna make a statement for all my fellow game buyers......
Snake1999 0 Posted January 16, 2002 Have you tried with Avon's FAQ? I found this entry in there: "Insert correct CD" Hope this will help you.

It was last updated December 6. What's your system configuration? Motherboard? How many CD drives? Did you try disabling DMA for both you CD and hard drive? Have you checked your ASPI layer? Did you click there to go on to the FAQ item about checksum errors?
Maldita Vecindad 1 Posted February 5, 2002 I check Avon's FAQ and still haven't been able to update OFP. I check Avon't FAQ and everything seems to be fine. My config: Atlhon 900 mOBO Iwill KK266plus (VIA) CDRW LG 48X Also the ASPI problems in the FAQ seem to solve problems for people with WINME or WIN2000 (wich aren't officially supported for Adaptec). but I have Win98 and when I run ASPIcheck it said that it doens't recognized any adaptec hardware in my machine so it doesn't did anything. I even tried a manual updtae on the aspi drivers and still haven't been able to solve my problem. Don't know what to do......really I need help. thanks guys for your help. P.S. Customer Service of CODEMASTERS SUCKS...to say the least of those incompetent fools.....
theavonlady 2 Posted February 5, 2002 I see you have a CDRW drive. Have you read what The FAQ says about "CloneCD" and other similar products?
troop 0 Posted February 5, 2002 keKoJoNes, did you try 'ForceASPI' yet? http://www.flexion.org/aspi/ In a nutshell, it will let you install the latest ASPI-layer even if there is no Adaptec device in your machine. Also, it helps with a lot of these CD-reading problems in various programs. I would recommend to install it (ASPI) anyways. --- On a second note, recently I've installed XP and do now get the same 'insert the correct CD...' message. I did _not_ encounter this problem once with 98SE thus had no problems so far installing and/or patching OFP. Only now, I got them as well. It begins, when the CD(v.1.0 EU) is in my Toshiba drive and XP starts up;...continous spin-up of the CD, but it wont get read correct. When I open Explorer and click on my H: drive, XP states, the 'drive' is 'not formatted' or 'cannot be read' 'incompatible format' and other b*llsh*t. SAFEDISK2 IS B*LLSH*T ! (When it comes to correct CD reading) Thats not all: XP has some confirmed problem reading protected CD's. Those are acknowledged by M$ and some fix has been provided by them. (Check Windows-Update) Whether it does help or not, I do not know, because I did not install it yet (and wont; read on) Like I've said, I did not have these problems with 98SE, but can now feel for the people as well, how it is to sit in front of their computer trying to get OFP to run due to this CD reading problem. It IS really annoying. But eventually, I can start and run OFP (without cracks, mind you) Before the description how, let me tell you that my Toshiba never had problems reading CD's but with SAFEDISK2, it's another story. In case of OFP, I have meanwhile tried to exchange my CD-Drive with the Plextor 24/10/40 burner from the second machine;..but low and behold, same problem. At least this should have been able to read the CD correct/first try/ no? bah. Of course, me tried every trick, that proved successful under 98SE, to get the CD read correct/first try/ like: BIOS; all autodetect off BIOS; DMA off, PIO only - XP; PIO only XP; all caching off(on tested) -all CD caching makes the read problem worse! XP; all Autorun features to 'no action' XP; inbuild CD burning feature off(as well as switching the service off) - Null. The problem persists. The CD cannot be read correct. So far, only this procedure helps: 1.Starting XP _without_ the CD in drive. 2.Starting the Explorer 3.Hover the cursor over the CD-drive and be ready to click. 4.Insert the CD. 5.As soon as the light of the drive lits up, immediately click on the CD-drive (timing..lol) ...hourglass...2 secs max. (if longer, failure is imminent) And now, either the content of the CD is shown, or the above read-error shows up AGAIN. If it shows up, no matter how often you refresh;.. the CD will NOT be read! So;.. eject the CD and(!) close the Explorer. From now on, you will have to repeat steps 2 through 5 _continously_, UNTIL the CD is read correct in the Explorer. (If it is not read after 5-10 tries, you ARE out of luck and should try another CD-Drive maybe-Codemasters will not be able to help you.) Only AFTER the CD content is finally displayed in the Exporer, you will have NO further problems starting up/running OFP...weired? (no, weak. BS SF2...) At least, that's the current behaviour here. Means, I can not start up XP and immediately start OFP to play. Eventually, I get there... That IS an problem, but if this can be fixed...I dont think so. It's the CD. Good luck! Maldita Vecindad 1 Posted March 5, 2002 well avon I tried every and I mean EVERY posible solution in your FAQ and haven't been able to patch my OFP. I guess I'll have to buy another CD room..... thanks anyway to all........
Maldita Vecindad 1 Posted March 7, 2002 well i only have final two options: Plan A:Install a external drive, now I'll like to know if I can change the drive from where the game loads up?, the external drive is not mine so I'll like to keep playing my Upgraded OFP from my internal CD(that if this method works). Plan B:Full format,I'll try this weekend to tell you how it goes if my plan a fails Please someone anwer my cd question (what registry key or something) P.S.: Codemasters service sucks!!!!!!!!
theavonlady 2 Posted March 7, 2002 Are you using the CD from the US version of OFP Gold? Maybe this has something to do with it.
PanzerGrenadier2 0 Posted March 9, 2002 Well i had the same problem but i found codemaster's service pretty quick. I got a reply in 2 day's maybe u should try emailing every email addy u can find to do with this game. I dont have 365 day's to check avon's faq so i'll just tell you what fixed mine . If you have any external programs related to cd buring or anything remotly similar e.g daemon tools to name 1 REMOVE IT !! then try updating .
Pointman 0 Posted March 9, 2002 You know I have been having the same problem. Been through AvonLady's FAQ (by the way, thanks Avon). The funny thing is I installed OFP before with no problems. I haven't put anything new in the pc. Maybe updated some drivers, but that is about it. I do not have a cd-r so can eliminate that route (although did go through the steps). I have the original version (1.20). I'm stumped on this one!!
Maldita Vecindad 1 Posted March 13, 2002 theavonlady:Sorry Avon but I don't have the GOld Edition... I have the standart European Version (1.0) PanzerGrenadier2: well panzer I don't have any cdcoping software (I unistalled all) and It still doesn't work. Also Codemasters service response to my first e-mail was quick. they refered me to an useless FAQ and told me that their queues were backloged. Another question:How can I change the drive letter from where OFP boots up? I'm going to use an external drive to see if the CD is recognize and I'm finally be able to update my OFP but I need to change the drive letter in the registry (or other config file) so the patch programs look for the original files in the correct path (the external drive) and after the update change back the drive to play OFP from my internal drive. Well...let's hope for an answer and a solution to my updating problems

Pointman 0 Posted March 15, 2002 hehe, very nice. Now if I could only find a solution to upgrading my doggone game. Still stuck here in 1.20 world.
Maldita Vecindad 1 Posted March 19, 2002 I have used the cracks. Some of them work but I find it pretty anoying to use a crack in a original copy of software just because of the crappy instalation and stupid copy protection of a great PC game. no luck so far.... I'm really going to format my PC......
Lt_Damage 0 Posted March 20, 2002 I find this rather pathetic, that we have to help you rather than BIS. They should remove safedisc2 from their cds, as it serves no purpose besides making it very difficult for people who purchase the game. I can tell you now, it poses no problem to people who want to play the game by downloading it and burning it to a CD, or playing from the Image. If you email your contact details to Adam_M_@hotmail.com I'll help you get it working, you shouldn't have to buy anything new just because of safedisc.
Placebo 29 Posted March 20, 2002 Bis had absolutely nothing to do with safedisc being put on the game, it was put on by Codemasters and Bis were not happy about it.
