Supreme Commander

Recommended Posts

Over at the Game spy site they have a massive preview of Supreme Commander. A spiritual sequal to one of my personal favourites and most properly one of the best RTS's of living memory Total Annihlation.

Although its set on a completely different story and has a different name its being desighed by Chris Taylor the same guy who did TA. And from the screen shots its obvious to see that it takes a lot from the classic game (giant fighting robots for example)

Also this time round they will be dealing with the story a bit more then TA - which Chris addmits in the interveiw that they threw the story together at the last minute with TA. Although from what ive read about the story its still some what weak. But who cares about the story line when you got giant fighting robots and a entire planet to fight on istead of a boxed in map. yay.gif

They also promise over the top weapons of mass destruction such as your usuall nukes and giant artillery peices with some giant robots thrown in for good measure.

Also naval conflict will be involved with giant battle ships all with indipentant firing and swiveling guns all over the giant ships.

So i dont really want to go over and repeat what the preview says, ill just let you guys click the Link and read on.

Cheers,

Murphy biggrin_o.gif

I'm noticing a trend here...

1) Valve makes incrediblely awesome game (Halflife) and rules the world, gets screwed over by the publisher (too many to list now), splits with their publisher for crap the publisher did, and goes on to make HL2, which technically is full of wonders.

2) Chris Taylor (+ real Cavedog) makes incrediblely awesome game (Total Annihilation) and rules the world, gets screwed over by the publisher (booted by Infogrames around Kingdoms times), and remakes the "spiritual successor but in a different name", while Infogrames claimed they'd make TA2.

3) Jordan man Derek makes incrediblely awesome game (OFP) and rules the world, something happens with the publisher (what gives?), and go on to design the end-all to war-sims, but minus the brand name which codemasters is intent on promulgating.

At any rate, if even 10% of the stuff at the normally nonsensical Gamespy can be believed, this is far beyond awesome, it borders on discombobulating. Apparently there's a spread in PC Gamer as well, all the more reason to go and check out a filthy console rag.

I agree... I've been very happy so far. There has been a good trend in gaming.

Chris keeps talking about bringing "strategy" back to RTS... what about RoN? That was a great strategy game. That's my current benchmark for RTS games.

Yes, yes it is. Excuse me.

*kills every civ and replaces them with Ceaser's Legions, massing an army worth 4 groups full of soldiers*

Man1: "RUUUSHHH!!!"

Man1: "I WIN I WIN!"

Man2: "That was some great strategy, you ought to teach me someday!"

Man1: "Ha-ha-ha, no way, these types of strategys only come from HOURS of playing real strategy games!"
